Discharge Celebration Ends With Drunken Driving Fine
Melvin L. Pape, 18, of 536 Madison, discharged from military service, admitted guilt to drunken driving and was fined 350 plus costs and had his license revoked by Judge Scott Lowry. He and two others drank and drove a borrowed car on Madison Street, crashing into a vehicle driven by Donald E. Vincent. Police found the driver intoxicated and blamed poor car condition for the trouble. An Optimist Club meeting in the city will feature Mayor Edward Honeyager speaking on Waulesha in 1948.

A thin frost on pavements early today caused two accidents in Waukesha County injuring three. Two youths near Gelafield lost control on Highway 30 and were treated for cuts and bruises. A hunter, James Schott of Milwaukee, escaped with a cracked rib after his car was struck by a grain truck on Highway 15 near Big Bend. One hunting dog was killed. the other fled and was not found. Deputies said the truck likely could not stop due to frost. Driver’s name unavailable.

Waukesha's last harness maker Edward Brown 82 lifelong resident died at his sister's home 1030 Baxter. Born Aug 28 1865 he continued his family's harness business on Gaspar Street later retiring about ten years ago. He was son of Martin and Minna Brown German immigrants.

Most items recovered. sheriff says part loot may remain in Adams. Smith, a Waukesha foundry worker recently living in Genesee, was drunk and wandering door to door seeking eggs. The theft disrupted family plans for relatives visiting from across the country. A fountain pen used by a son killed in the war was among the missing items.

Slippery escapee nabbed after jailbreak in Omaha
Frank G Gaber Jr a 16 year old from Wisconsin who escaped Dodge County jail by lifting a floor plank and fleeing in a government truck was arrested in Omaha Nebraska after riding in a stolen car from Fremont. He previously disappeared from the Kesaki school and was linked to drownings and a sleep pill note. He says he traveled to Beloit Chicago and Omaha breaking into a railroad station and stealing tickets and a car frame before being captured.

Father Rescues Two By Throwing Them Two Stories
BLACK CREEK WIS. Rescue workers found the bodies of Fern Pingel 37 and four children after a blaze destroyed the Ray Pingel farm home. Pingel saved Betty 10 and Carla 3 by throwing them from a second floor window. the family had tried to escape but were overcome by smoke. The house burned about 6 30 a m and loss was estimated at 5000 dollars. The two surviving Drives for Telp Pingel went for help while firemen searched the ruins for hours. The victims were taken to a Seymour funeral home.
