A 26 year old Mukwonago man Matthew Christiansen was sentenced to one year in the county jail under the Huber law after admitting he bought beer for a 11 year old girl. He pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Ralph M Stair YMCA president said the board recommends amending the constitution to enlarge the board from 15 to a range of 15 to 24. Voting members were notified for a Dec 29 meeting at 4 30 p m in the building to decide the change.
Wisconsin forecast calls for mostly fair conditions tonight with cooler air in the northwest then a partly cloudy and warmer Thursday. Low temperatures dip to zero to five above with a high near 20, and average readings around 18. Weather data also notes yesterday's high of 30 and low of 7 and a yearly high of 37 and low of 34.
A fast moving fire gutted a second floor bedroom in a Marinette Wisconsin house killing five De Gayner children aged 2 to 6. Father Robert De Gayner, 29, was badly burned while trying to rescue them and Mrs De Gayner was hospitalized in shock as investigators said the blaze started on the upper level and consumed the frame home.
Waukesha churches announce Christmas Eve and Christmas Day observances. St. Joseph's Catholic Church hosts a midnight mass preceded by carols at 11:30 p.m. with Rev. August Gearhard. morning masses run 6 to 9 and 10:30 p.m., with the boys choir at 6 a.m. and a high mass at 10:00 a.m. St. Mary's chapel offers midnight mass with carols before, and morning masses from 6 to 11:30 a.m. First Baptist holds an 11 p.m. candlelight and Dr. Bahr reads Why the Chimes Rang. Evangelical and Reformed plan 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. services with solos. Salem Evangelical United Brethren, First Methodist, and First Presbyterian schedule candlelight and carol services, with choirs and soloists. Turn to Page 12.
Mrs. Eugene Sobotta 23 of Independence died at a Whitehall hospital after a crash on Highway 121 three miles west of Whitehall. Her husband, who was slightly injured, said a partly parked stock truck on the highway and the glare of another car prevented a timely stop. Truck owner Earl Larson went for help. coroner Martin A. Wiemer said no inquest will be held.
The Waukesha public library will close on Christmas day and Saturday December 26. It will also close early at 5 p.m. on Thursday Christmas Eve.
In Monroe Wisconsin Judge Elton Morrison told Mrs Dorothy Tschudy she cannot spend Christmas with Baby Jeffrey who she seeks to adopt. The two year old will remain in a foster home until the January 14 hearing on the adoption plea. The child stays unless the current home is deemed inadequate.
Alameda California reports Matthew Infield a baseball coach at Alameda Naval Air Station directs local team practice and preparation news notes.
Institutions in Waukesha set Christmas menus featuring turkey or chicken with trimmings. The county jail aims eight to ten diners with turkey dressing potatoes vegetables cranberry soup buns pumpkin pie fruit and ice cream. The Wisconsin School for Boys plans for 115 boys to share a meal of roast turkey dressing mashed potatoes peas cranberry sauce relishes apple pie and ice cream. Resthaven and the county hospital and home also plan elaborate menus including shrimp cocktail and plum pudding with fruit sauce, nuts and candies.
Twenty two American soldiers who refused repatriation become exiles in Korea as they reject UN pleas to return home. They join a British and South Korean delegation in choosing communism and will be held by Indian troops until Jan 23 before possible transfer to communist areas. The scene includes singing of the Internationale and an exhibition that drew Allied disgust.
Two men were injured when autos struck freight trains in two separate crashes today. Robert Jester 18 of 143 W Laflin Ave suffered head injuries and was listed in fair condition at Waukesha Memorial Hospital after colliding with a Soo Line freight engine at College Avenue Maple Avenue crossing. Conductor Leoniard Duran of Fond du Lac was aboard the southbound train. Donald H Merrick 35 of 146 Frame Ave sustained a bruised nose when his southbound auto hit a Northwestern freight at N East Avenue crossing near A214 am. He was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
Joyce A. Thomae, 23, of 46 Perkins Ave in Waukesha, died of bulbar polio at South View hospital Milwaukee Tuesday night. She was mother of two and married to Thomas Thomae, a United Parcel Service supervisor in Milwaukee. Born Aug 23, 1930, she was a Waukesha High School graduate and an accordion teacher.
Thirty motorists forfeited $13.50 each in municipal court after speeding arrests by state police using radar units. Two others paid $10 plus costs. Most arrests were near Goerke's Corners on December 46 while others occurred on Highway 16 in Pewaukee. One motorist, Marvin Nelson of Whitewater, was discharged after prosecutors found his car could only reach 40 mph at the arrest location.
The government reports a slight November decline in the cost of living, led by a 14 percent drop in food prices, mainly meats and eggs. The index fell 0.3 percent from October to 115 percent of 1947-49 average, with housing and medical care rising and overall year over year data showing 6 tenths and 13 percent above June 1950.
In Versailles the French Parliament again failed to elect a new president on the eleventh ballot. Macel-Edmond Naegelen, a Communist-backed Socialist, led with 372 votes, 69 short of an absolute majority of 441. Louis Jacquinot trailed with 340, while the coalition’s unity candidate had 392 on the previous ballots. The deadlock signals the country’s worst constitutional crisis as parties split over the European army plan and past French leaders.
John Freeman of 306 N East Ave announced he has been notified as number one in the Waukesha postmaster ranking with an 83 score plus additional points for being a disabled veteran. Others named include Leonard J Kannenberg second with 94, Ruth Steinert third with 91, and Gerald E Graf fourth with 84. Thirteen applicants were screened with a final selection to be recommended by the county Republican club after official word.
