World War II and Korean War veteran Gerald E. Graf 32 of Waukesha route 5 led 13 applicants in the civil service test for Waukesha postmaster with a score of by the U S civil service commission. Leonard J. Kannenberg 5208 East Ave and Ruth Steinert the acting postmaster ranked second and third respectively. Graf has not yet received official confirmation. Graf is a former Air Force captain who recently started as a salesman for Dale Chevrolet and holds degrees from local institutions. Final appointment will be made by the President after the remaining candidates, including St George Blade Dunn Freeman Harris Held Rudolph Sack Thurwachter and Ward, compete in the final written exam.

FFA Auction at Rotary Club Nets $250 for Waukesha Chapter
Waukesha high school's FFA chapter raised about $250 at the eighth annual Rotary Club auction of produce. Rotarians bid on turkeys ducks geese chickens rabbits and beef roasts with two dozen eggs selling for $4. Highest turkey bid reached $22.50 and a goose donated as a door prize sold for $10.50. The event, held after the dinner at the Avalon hotel, will fund FFA projects for the 140 member group.

Stores And Banks Announce Christmas Hours
Regular Thursday closing hours will be observed by stores banks and city and county offices. Stores and offices will be closed on Friday Christmas day. Downtown retail stores will close at 5 30 p m Thursday but will remain open until 9 p m tonight and Wednesday night for late Christmas shoppers. Most downtown stores will be open Saturday but a few will be closed per the Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Ida Heywood, 38, of 515 N Hartwell Ave in Waukesha, was awarded a divorce from John H Heywood in circuit court on grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment. She receives custody of their 18 month old son, alimony of 30 dollars weekly, and 35 dollars every two weeks for child support. Heywood runs a Milwaukee county service station. The couple married May 28, 1937.

Reluctant POWs Judge Interviews Unworthy of Aid
The Neutral Nations Repatriation Commission in Panmunjom flatly rejected a protest petition from pro Communist Allied prisoners who refused home interviews. A 58 year old Genesee Depot man Thomas Knobel died this morning at Waukesha Memorial. A break in at the Calhoun service station on Highway 59 yielded more than 35 in cash and cigars. He is survived by his wife two daughters Marilyn Donna and a son Thomas. Services set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Erling Larsen funeral home with burial at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Friends may call Wednesday.

A 20-year-old Fewaukee man, John E. Dieringer, escaped injury when his car went off Hy. 16 near Hy. 164.
