In Sydney two electric commuter trains collided during the rush hour killing two women and injuring 139 people. Nine of the injured were in critical condition as rescue teams freed victims from twisted cars.
Dr. William G. Skewes, 85, died at his home in Waukesha Friday afternoon. Born January 21, 1868 in Ives Grove Racine County, he trained as a dentist then became a rural mail carrier in 1917 and retired in 1933. Survived by his wife Winifred Hale and cousins, he was active in Congregational church and Masonic bodies. Funeral at Congregational church Monday at 1:30 p.m. with burial at Mound Cemetery Racine. flowers omitted.
The Friday Waukesha Freeman prints a correction to Mrs. Pearl Brown’s obituary. It clarifies her husband’s name as Frank W. Brown who died in Waukesha in 1945 and states her son is Earl, not Earl Jr.
Edwin H. Honeyager, 49, former Waukesha mayor and longtime alderman, filed nomination papers to seek the mayor’s office in the upcoming spring election. He previously served two terms and later worked as an industrial engineer before opening Honeyager’s Store on 271 West Main. Mayor C. C. Smith declined comment on a possible bid.
Carl Austin Hall and Bonnie Brown Heady were buried today in cemeteries 200 miles apart after dying in the gas chamber in Jefferson City Missouri. Heady was laid to rest in Clearmont Missouri with a small ceremony while Hall was buried in Pleasanton Kansas after a police escorted funeral.
