A string of wintry driving hazards led to seven injuries as multiple accidents occurred in Wankesha, Genesee, and Muskego counties. Deputies cite blinded drivers, slick roads, and failed control on Hy 59 and nearby routes.

George Knipfel retired captain of the Waukesha police department died Saturday at his home. A veteran of the old days, he joined the department in 191? and rose to night police captain in 1929. He was a life member of the Wisconsin Police Protective Association and was honored for his service. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Randall Funeral Home with interment in Prairie Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. today.
New York and Washington report the largest aviation merger to date. American World Airways plans to buy American Co urseuy, transferring AOA assets to Pan American in exchange for Pan American stock. About 1,000 AOA employees would be retained with continued employment.
A hazardous ice curve on Highway 30 east of Delafield trapped ten cars in a 90 minute span from 8:30 to 10:00 am. Eight cars sustained minor fender dents, two were badly wrecked with one wrapping around a tree. No serious injuries reported. highway department cleared the ice by 10 am. Witnesses Walter Lamp and Robert Buehmann warned others with a makeshift sign.
Donald Wils editor of Trimagashin and former obituary editor and columnist at the Minneapolis Journal died at his home here yesterday after a nine hour illness. He was 43.

Appleton police officer Paul Verhoven, 32, who had served four months on the force, shot himself late Saturday night. His body was found near his car with a head wound, and Chief Herbert W. In Oconomowoc Wisconsin two youths Kraut and Roth drove onto an ice covered park lagoon and skidded off. The car broke through the ice and partially submerged before a tow could arrive. Both escaped injury and praised caution after the close call. The car remained submerged and awaiting tow.
An elderly Pawawkee man, Richard Bagemihl, 77, was found with a four inch throat wound in a trailer at the White Oaks tavern area. Deputies labeled the incident an apparent suicide attempt. He was rushed by county ambulance to Wayne Memorial hospital. status not released.
