City council hears petition from 622 residents on a meter ordinance delay. Aldermen discuss parking space needs, committee of the whole proposal, and merchant input while postponing action until Jan. 2. Police permits and utility lighting concerns also noted.
Donors at the Waukesha Motor Company produced 261 pints of blood in a mobile unit event, the largest in 18 months for the Waukesha blood donor club. The first 48 pints supported the defense program for Korea, with O type blood flown to Milwaukee and other units sent to Kalamazoo for plasma processing. The remaining 213 pints were to be processed at Hal Milwaukee and credited to the donor club, with transfusions available to local residents through the winter.
Dr. Robert Harman of Ohio State University argues for profit sharing in a Carroll College convocation. He says more production increases pocket money for workers and boosts demand, while acknowledging labor may miss out. He claims the plan is practical and learnable, though details remain.
Aldermen debated the safety of a large Fox Head beer sign atop Clarke Walgreen Cragstore, after the board of appeals overruled the building inspector and granted it. The council also authorized state and federal aid to widen W Broadway and Madison Street, approving signs at West avenue Newhall and Baxter Buckley, banning parking on Glenwood drive, and rezoning six edge-city plots to residential zones.

Eugene Herbst was injured in Korea when a land mine exploded. He suffered a broken leg and shrapnel injuries while serving with the 557th Engineer Intelligence Technicians Team. Herbst entered service in March and has been in Korea since August, per word to his wife Margorie Herbst of 817 Lincoln Ave. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Alex Herbst of 905 North St.
Reports say ex-convicts pressed for rapid passport action as prisoner exchanges loom. The UN and Reds clash over lists of POWs and a broader armistice. Western delegates push for transparency, while Reds resist full releases and insist on conditions before disclosure.
An elderly Waukesha man and two Milwaukeeans were treated after a three car collision in Waterville. Thornton Kiphart, 73, of 200 S Grand Ave, fractured left kneecap and sustained cuts and bruises, listed in good condition. John Taberski, 66, Milwaukee, fractured right wrist and right leg with possible head injury, in fair condition, and his wife Binnie Taberski sustained head and leg cuts, in good condition.
At a sparsely attended budget hearing only two citizens spoke. Sidney R. Smith condemned the growing city expenses and taxes noting a 250 percent tax rise next year and out-of-town residents moving away due to high rates. Frank Scrima listened but supported higher costs.
Office workers report strong parcel post volume and early Christmas mail demand. An new annex in the abandoned five and ten store on Broadwar aids swift processing. Holiday hours extend through weekend with special Dec 15 service. first class mail remains preferred for gifts and greeting cards with standard rates and return-to-sender rules.

The program blends Essay for Orchestra, Deont and Transfiguration, Nutcracker Suite excluding some parts, and Copland Rodeo with Buckaroo Holiday and Hoedown. The orchestra delivers solidly, with vivid flutes and strong bass, though some pieces feel uneven.
A seven member building committee told C. Smith its view that the Waukesha YMCA should acquire the Behren’s Spa property on Broadway for next quarter. The report followed a review by two Chicago FMCA architects and an inspection of the building. It praises the Spa location and four acre site but notes the large sums needed to adapt it for YMCA use.
A $500 bond posted in municipal court by a Milwaukeean was forfeited today by Judge Scott Lowry after Robert Rose 42 failed to appear. Rose is charged with larceny for selling $3125 worth of sheet metal to William K Watts in Brookfield on Aug 15 1948 and then stealing it back. He left the state, returned this summer, and repeatedly evaded hearings scheduled for July 18 Nov 14 and today. The bond posted with American Automobile Insurance Co. is forfeited. In other cases Marko Morvorick 20 Mukwonago Route 1 was fined $10 and costs for driving with a suspended license. Hugo Mueller 22 Milwaukee was fined $10 and costs for driving without a valid license.
Seri A. Naster testified about a passport request after speaking with T. Lamar Caudle. He described discussing the passport issue with Caudle at the state department and noted his parole status. Naster also linked Nathan and Abraham Teitelbaum to alleged schemes to fix his tax case, with earlier contacts involving promoter Frank Nenan.
