Waukesha school board approved a $100 annual raise for 171 teachers effective January 1 with eight of nine members voting yes. Taverns Plan to Close Christmas Eve in Waukesha County
County taverns will close at 6 pm on Christmas Eve. Erv Lacy president of the Tavern League of Wisconsin says league members voted to close. Last year only three of more than 30 taverns stayed open Christmas Eve. Closing policy has been in place since 1948 and local ordinances require closures in Waukesha.

Heat Trouble Shuts White Rock School One Day

County Board Adopts Next Year Budget
The county board approved the 1983 budget and will use $150,000 of a $1,061,000 cash surplus to reduce the tax levy. The budget raises $1,317,931 by taxes with $310,000 invested. Finance had proposed $100,000 from the surplus, which would have raised the tax roll to $1,367,931. County clerk Richard Sylvester outlined the county's surplus and financial picture.

The 1953 county budget, adopted today, proposes a drop of about 78 cents in Wau Kesha city’s share of the county tax. The city’s rate is tentatively $5.43 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, down from last year’s $6.21. Total county levy is $1,317,931, yielding a county rate near $3.51 per $1,000, compared with last year’s $4.43.

County Board Reduces Tax Levy After Surplus Debate

County Refuses Help Payment For Missing Boy Search
The county will not pay the Muskego volunteer fire department $35 for dragging a channel in the search for a missing 12 year old on Nov 29. Supervisors say the operation was not authorized by the county. Alfred Waller says sheriff’s department called the fire department. Sheriff’s committee says a deputy cannot authorize a search. it should have been ordered by the sheriff. Waller notes this was during the excitement. Robert E. Branstetter, 37, is held in Oconomowoc city jail charged by his wife with stealing and pawning her ring valued at $750. Case continued to Dec 6 with bail set at $500. Branstetter unable to post bail. In other action, Kenneth Salter, 20, and Finest Bull, 20, both of Hartland, and Robert Isinger, 32, of Hartland, pleaded guilty to chopping down three telephone poles and pushing three others over on Hy. P. south.

James J Fitzgerald a longtime Eagle physician died Tuesday at St Marys hospital in Waukesha at age 82 after a weeklong admission. Born 1870 in Orononowoc he practiced in Maglesinee after Rush Medical College Chicago and built a five bed clinic in Eagle. Survived by wife Hannah Connell Fitzgerald two sisters and two nieces. Funeral Friday at St Theresa Catholic Church Eagle with burial in parish cemetery. Friends may call after 2 pm Thursday.
