Municipal Judge W H Gilmartin pleaded guilty after a policeman ticketed him for parking in a restricted zone. He fined himself two dollars in Fort Worth Texas on the spot in a rare self disciplinary act.

The federal government will not grant a stay of execution for kidnap killer Carl Austin Hall to aid in locating missing Greenlease ransom funds. U S Attorney Edward Scheufler said Hall is not needed in a federal perjury probe. A blonde mystery woman seen with Hall corroborated his arrest story but investigators say she is unconnected to the case. Hall and his mistress Mrs Heady are set to die in the Missouri gas chamber on December 18.
Milwaukee District Attorney William J. McCauley withdrew his request to remove Norman Mailer's novel The Naked and the Dead from sale after the Milwaukee County Literary Commission ruled it not obscene. He said he followed the commission's opinion and would not force his view on others.
A Reedsburg Wisconsin mother saved three of her children when an oil stove exploded destroying a two story rural home. Mrs Walter Rose was upstairs with the children as flames blocked their escape. She jumped with Carol Mae age 2 from a bedroom window to a hay window roof and retrieved Ardith 4 and Gary 5 using a ladder. The husband was at a foundry and the fourth child aged 6 was with grandparents.
A Wednesday evening blaze above the Sell-Rite Food store at 733 W St Paul Ave caused about 1000 dollars in damage. Fire was started by short circuited wires in a neon sign and displaced the Flynn family who lived in a four room apartment now unusable until remodeling. Ed Radtke reported the fire to 5:45 p.m. Floyd Dunbar estimated total damage at 1000 dollars. The Flynns will stay with Flynn’s mother in Waukesha during repairs.
Robert Jones, 32, was killed in New York Tuesday night after a shoe shop dispute over a 30 cent purse repair. Patrolman Raymond Robin fired when Jones did not halt after a warning.
In Mantoloking New Jersey James J Turner Jr a 60 year old retiree confessed he made the large prints with linoleum and plywood on shoes. Scientists from Stevens Institute studied plaster casts while residents had reported sightings of a frightening creature emerging from the surf.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals warned cat owners to keep pots off the streets at night as a well organized gang of catnappers steals felines. A spokesperson said the thieves likely want the cats for their fur.
Three armed escapees from Washburn county jail flee in a 1947 Plymouth coupe. Eugene Bagge 25 from Hood River Oregon John Bagge 21 from Eugene Oregon Doren Daniels 18 from Earl Wisconsin evaded capture with possible help from Eugene Bagge’s wife 24 and their one year old child. Fourth man Orrin Daniels of Earl arrested. all face nighttime breaking and entering charges.
Harvey J. Weavers of the State Agriculture Department urged Wisconsin cities to trust each other and drop duplicate milk inspections. He spoke to the Wisconsin Milk Dealers Assn noting municipal health departments recheck milk tested elsewhere, driving up costs and irritating dairy farmers and plant operators.
Harold Schroeder 40 faces three charges after attacking a malfunctioning furnace in WEST BEND Wisconsin causing extensive damage to the heating system, four windows, and injuring an assistant police chief and breaking spectacles. Damages exceed $1 000.
A Northwest Airlines DC-4 bound for Milwaukee with 22 aboard returned to Madison after takeoff when the nose landing gear would not retract. Capt. John Witt piloted the twin-engine craft which landed without incident. The plane was held for repairs and a replacement was sent from Minneapolis to continue the flight.
FCC examiner James D. Cunningham refused to accept Badger Television's staff exhibits for its proposed Madison channel 3 station, noting substantial variation with the application. The company may submit new staff information later. Radio Wisconsin challenged the exhibits.
La Verne Yeske, 31, Antigo, pleaded innocent to charges tied to the traffic deaths of Carl H. Lyons, 37, and his two adopted children. Lyons headed the Rhinelander welfare office. his wife was hospitalized. Yeske faces fourth degree manslaughter and failure to stop charges. Preliminary hearings set for Dec. 21 and 26.
