Government uses loyalty list of 78 subversive groups
The Clark administration released a master list of 78 organizations branded subversive by Attorney General Tom C. Clark. It divides into 47 prewar-designated groups and 41 added based on FBI investigations, signaling heightened scrutiny for government employees while stressing that membership alone is not automatic cause for dismissal. The list includes far right and far left groups, with the Communist Party and its front groups, and others like the American Youth for Democracy and the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship.
