Burglary Accusation Fades as Purdy Is Placed Under Observation

One legged Air Force veteran Henry Chum, 29, told Sheriff Kilgore that his stepfather Frank W. Chase, 52, imprisoned him for 18 months, tortured him daily, and forced him to surrender his 120 dollar monthly disability pension and insurance. An American Legion posse seized Chase at gunpoint and seized evidence including a knotted rope, gun stock, plank, boots, and a rubber boot used to slap him. Chum, wounded in New Guinea, described years of abuse ending with eardrum damage and brutal beatings.

Youth gets 25 to life for hitchhike slaying case
Robert MacGregor aged 17 of Cconta Wisconsin was sentenced at Crystal Falls Michigan to 25 years to life for the July 22 slaying of Emil Nordbeck a National Advertising Co worker. The youth previously served time at the Waukesha School for Boys and faced parole records from 1947 and 1948. He showed little emotion as Judge Glenn W Jackson imposed the term and sent him to Michigan State Prison.
