Local Guardsmen Confirm First Check At Oshkosh Unit
In a ceremony at the Sales Pavilion in Oshkosh, Waukesha’s regimental headquarters company of the National Guard was recognized by regular army officials. The 127th Infantry of the 32nd Division, over 60 men transferred from Company G in Oconto Falls, were mustered in during roll call and inspected by Colonel Herbert Smyth and other officers. The unit, to be stationed at Oshkosh, will support regimental headquarters with a seven Platoon formation and duties including intelligence, reconnaissance, anti tank mine detection and protective tasks. Ratings for many jobs are open, with drill nights at the pavilion weekly. Also reported is the death of Samuel G. Davey, 52, superintendent of schools in Eau Claire, from a heart attack.

County Youth Dies In Car Stolen From Friend
Donald Lucia a 21 year old Pewaukee resident was found dead in a 1941 Buick after attaching a hose to the exhaust in a suspected suicide. The car was reported missing by James Behlman and found half a mile off Highway 30 near Pewaukee Lake. Lucia lived with relatives. funeral services are set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hanson Funeral Home with burial in Arlington Cemetery Milwaukee. The American Legion will conduct services as Lucia was a veteran.

Air force transport crashes near Newfoundland shores
A four engine air force transport returning from the Berlin airlift crashed into the sea off Stephenville Newfoundland last night. Thirty five Americans aboard were shaken and bruised.
