A three day event at Frarar park begins September 2 with labor union concessions booths and activities. Keorvaner co sponsors with the Waukesha Labor council and Tarhor council. Awards of 11, 10, and 45 dollars await winners with Honda promised as a prize.
Turbulent weather yesterday brought a sharp 18 degree drop from 72 to 60 between 3 and 4 pm as a Canada cold front swept through. By nightfall the mercury fell to 48 in Waukesha with 23 in nearby Land O Lakes, prompting warmth prayers and extra blankets.
The United States reports offers of ground troops from Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the Philippines for Korea. Britain promises a self contained force, Australia to supply an infantry contingent, New Zealand a special unit, Thailand 12 000 men, and the Philippines 3 000. Gen McArthur urged UN members to contribute ground troops without delay.

Waukesha’s national guard unit marks its first year with regular Thursday night drills at the Sales pavilion. The 27th Infantry unit, part of the 32nd Red Arrow division, has grown quickly, trained at Camp McCoy, and performed Armistice and Memorial Day parades. The local company, authorized at 178 men, provides enlistment support and a regimental headquarters defense role, with seven platoons and duties in intelligence, reconnaissance, and protection.
Laredo Texas reports the arrest of Caterton Sabell a New York electrical engineer on espionage charges tied to a Soviet atomic spy ring. Sabell held on 100000 bond and faces transfer to the southern district of New York while FBI and PBS agents probe connections to a Mexican radio station and alleged discussions with Julius Rosenberg. Sabell fled the U S to Mexico after another spy arrest and previously worked as a radar engineer for the Navy.
August recruiting at the U S Army and Air Force station in Waukesha shows eight new enlistees with six in the regular branches and one woman joining the WAC. May had zero recruits, while June and July each signed eight. Four regular army and two air force recruits are in basic at Fort Riley Kansas. Names include Donald R Jenten Harold Hartenstein James R Ynrest Cartan Leadbetter Oscar Grimann George Liexenfelder and Friday. The new WAC recruit joins training at Camp Lee Virginia.

Draft board No. 1 had not received September or October quotas, with earlier guidance predicting about 49 men for the three months.
City Clerk Noah Crowley announced the September 6 registration deadline for the September 9 primary. Eligible new residents must have lived in their ward at least 70 days and in the state at least four years. registrations are taken at City Hall weekdays 8:30 am to 5 pm and Saturday 2:30 am to noon. About 50 new registrants signed cards over the summer.
Workmen yesterday resurfaced the school playground with a blacktop emulsion over a 20 by 20 foot area in front of the barracks on the ashore grounds, filling frost holes. A two inch base of chipped rock was laid, sand spread over the area, and the surface will be maintained with regular repairs to avoid a full resurfacing later.
An all male coroner’s jury in Oconomowoc ruled three drownings accidental after a four minute finding. The Lac La Belle incident near Bogus Island killed Mrs Maxine Yuan and husband Clarence McCarthy of Madison and Gauge R McCarthy of Madison. The boats, witnesses, and sequence described by survivor Frank Chatfield formed the basis of the findings.
United Press reports U S and South Korean forces smashed a large North Korean bridgehead south of Taegu along the Naktong River. Marine and 24th Division units crushed elites of the Fourth Division, pushing back the North Korean offensive toward Taegu while recapturing Pohang’s east coast area. Aerial and ground actions restored the Naktong line and cleared the Taegu threat, with heavy resistance and ongoing mop up of pockets along the river ridge.
