A Hirtland farmer and another man were hurt in a collision near Wau today when a car and a tractor went into the river. The car driver escaped injury, while the farmer sustained cuts and burns and was sent to a hospital. A rural woman, Mrs. Viv, also involved, received treatment. The victims’ exact conditions were listed as serious but not specified.
International Harvester officials at the Wau Kesha plant will present a wage proposal to union leaders within ten days. Industrial relations manager Phil Olson said the plan allows a one time general wage rise during the contract term, with an escalator based on the labor index. About 53,800 workers across 19 plants are affected. a five year contract offer to Wiens at 19 plants was reported.

LAKE SUCCESS N Y June Soviet Delegate Jacob A Malik summoned a surprise private meeting of United Nations council members before a scheduled official session. Malik, council president, sought to bypass procedural roadblocks he set to hinder action on Korea while sustaining a bitter clash of Bretton and counter propaganda among members.
Director Fred Sper leads the Weber recreational band at Cutler Park as tonight’s concert returns after two postponements. The program includes Tschudtowsky March Slav, By the Waters of Minnetonka, DaKoven’s Robin Hood selections, and Betty Ruzicka singing Night and Day and Bathtub from South Pacific amid weather doubts.
Wilmer Allen Banks of Waukesha, a former Weekeehaigh student, has been awarded the Purple Heart while recovering in an army hospital in Tokyo after a July 29 shell blast near Taejon, South Korea. His parents, Mr and Mrs Wilbur Books, learned of the injury by letter and telegram from the Department of Defense.
North Korean artillery shells outskirts of Taegu as U S troops capture a Communist lieutenant accused of ordering the massacre of twenty six bound American prisoners. Survivors testified the unit was under a ruthless commander who ordered executions with tommy guns. Prisoners were tied and shuffled for hours, some beaten to death, while others were shot for signs of life during a brutal attack on a hilltop. The captured lieutenant was sent to army HQ for higher-echelon handling.
North Korean forces launched an attack within 20 miles of Taegu as they pressed south and east. U S Army and South Korean units retreated two to three miles along the Naktong approaches while the North Koreans shelled the western front near Waerwan and Taegu outskirts. Officials cautioned the assault may flare further, with a large-scale offensive described as the big next phase of the war.
Dr Benjamin Schwartz of the Russian research center at Harvard University warned at an open house forum sponsored by the international peace seminar in Seston at Carre College. Waukesha board of appeals altered linking requirements for prefabricated homes yesterday. A permit can be issued for a home with 2 by 3 inch studs 20 inches apart and a five ply panel exterior, or with 2 by 6 inch roof trusses 20 inches apart, deemed as strong as conventional 2 by 4 studs with 16 inch spacing. The decision involved a Weyerhaeuser prefab home at 332 Frame Ave built by Modular Home Engineering, costing about 8500 dollars, and followed testimony by building inspector RT Jones and City Planner Richard Arms who said no single prefab brand is endorsed. The change aims to ease permits if walls and gluing meet durability standards, despite concerns from opponents about prefab reliability and long-term performance.
