Waukesha High announces resignation of football coach and offers contract to a replacement. New instructors join staff including journalism and paper instructor, and assistant football coach roles filled. City employees from Nemahbin area along with Mayor Bruce Bentley hosted a picnic at John Weber’s Lower Nemahbin Lake home while about 175 children attended a citywide playground day at Greenfield Park in Milwaukee. City hall staff wore sports shirts and gatherings dispersed around 10:30 a.m. as groups traveled to Weber’s summer home and to Greenfield. The outing was funded by profits from a penny era waived rule initiated by the kids themselves.

The Wisconsin Democratic official newspaper of the Democratic organizing committee notes that twice as many Wisconsin Democrats will run for county offices this fall as in 1940. With eight offices to be filled in each of the state's 48 counties, 48 offices are at stake.

Janesville police dragged the river Monday night to recover the body of Theresa Weight a 57 year old woman. Authorities say she fled her rooming house following a heated argument with her husband Joseph Weight 27 and may have taken her own life.

Adrian Traag and wife Susan, owners of the Colonial Inn at Delafield, were fined $75 for disorderly conduct after a July 3 brawl at their tavern. Judge Alvin Brendermuch presided at the municipal court. In a separate case in Codamowne, Lawrence Gale, 24, of Milwaukee, was fined $3 and costs for stealing gasoline from a Hartland Sand and Gravel Co. truck during a siphoning incident on August 2.

About 80 draftees from Waukesha county underwent a six hour induction medical at Milwaukee’s Wisconsin Avenue center. They were examined for sight, hearing, blood pressure, heart, teeth, and mentals. After testing they marched for chest X rays and returned for a mental test before learning results and next steps.
DOUGLAS Ariz 28 year old discharged rail worker Haralt T Lantz confessed to killing an elderly woman on Southern Pacific Golden State Limited after boarding without a ticket near Tucson. He told officers he assaulted Mrs Ada C Parkin of Grinnell Iowa during a rape attempt and fled when trainmen found him. he later admitted the crime en route to Douglas police.
Front dispatches describe U.S. and South Korean forces countering a North Korean bridgehead along the Naktong River about 15 miles north of Masan. American troops seized the river bridge and advanced toward Manan while sustaining heavy casualties and deterring further enemy movements. MacArthur’s headquarters noted the Waegwan area remains contested with the bridgefield “contained and under attack.”
