County Woman Struck by Car in Waukesha County

A Pewaukee woman is in fair condition at Waukesha Memorial hospital with shock and a broken left leg after being struck by a car yesterday around 4 p m. Sheriff officials did not report full accident details. Three other people were injured in separate crashes yesterday and Thursday including Walter O Chates 32 of Oconomowoc with possible brain concussion and several broken ribs after a tire blowout near Highway 18. Donald Gorski 23 of Milwaukee was driving the car. Ira Thompson 48 of Rockford Illinois had a lip injury on Highway 30 near North Prairie. Ray H Larson 44 of Milwaukee was struck near the Drive-In theater on Bluemound Road and was being X-rayed for possible fractures.

New Comic Book Stand Opens On White Rock Ave

A new comic book stand operated by Keith and Carol Kruch and Robert Bergman opens on White Rock avenue across from Frame park in Waukesha. The trio offers Batman Sandman Plastic Man Superman Bullet Man Doll Man and Crime Stories at a nickel each. They report strong sales with a large inventory and plan to operate from front steps with a lunch break shift to the backyard.

Women of Moose Plan Solicitations for Youth Center

Big Crowd Attends Wisconsin Centennial Exposition Opening

Milwaukee crowds surged to the state fairgrounds for the centennial show’s debut with 12,000 on opening night and an estimated 15,000 expected today. Officials noted the event marks Wisconsin’s 100 years of statehood and features exhibits valued at about five million dollars as acting Governor Oscar Rennebohm and Assemblyman Ora Rice prepared formal dedication.

Delinquent Taxes Rise in County

Waukesha county taxpayers fall further behind on real estate taxes with almost 100 more delinquent parcels than last year. Treasurer Daniel Plerner said the rise stems from tighter funds and lower collections, with 3,086 delinquent parcels this year and October 19 set for sale to cover unpaid taxes.

Wisconsin School for Boys superintendent post draws wide candidate field

The Wisconsin welfare department will appoint a new superintendent for the Wisconsin School for Boys from about 60 applicants, triple the number two weeks prior. Former superintendent T B R Uthus was discharged after an attorney general investigation. Applications were due today though late mail may count. finalists will face written and oral tests before A W Bayley selects the winner, likely by late September.

Mrs. Ella Diedrich Dies Active in Legion in Waukesha

Private funeral services will be held Monday at 1 30 pm at Erling Larsen funeral home for Mrs Ella Diedrich who died at her home 352 West St Paul avenue last night. She was a charter member of the American Legion and active in the DAR and the Women s Relief Corps. She came to Waukesha from Eagle 50 years ago. Surviving are her husband Mr Earl Diedrich and two granddaughters. Interment will be at Prairie Home cemetery.

Judy Stewart Returns From Hollywood Adventure

Mukwonago youngster Judy Stewart returns home after a West Coast trip to audition for Green Promises. She rode in limousines, met stars, swam in the Pacific, and endured a brief bout of laryngitis before reuniting with family. The 11-year-old kept a travel diary and will learn if she won a screen test within a week. Laurie Dee, Judy’s little sister, starts walking.

Tragedy as British Bride Dies After Arrival Drama

In Sioux City Iowa a British war bride Joyce, 22, has died in a sanatorium after her husband Staff Sgt. Leo F Jeske left Sioux City to meet her mother Mrs George Hewitt in Catsworth England. The tragedy follows the death of Joyce from tuberculosis while her mother traveled to visit.

Boy 15 Buried Alive in Sand Pit Collapse
