Butler, a Muscatine native, moved to New York ten years ago and later returned to marry a Muscatine daughter. now in Flushing.

Acquit Man Who Shot Melon Raider in Correctionville
In Correctionville on September 26 William Mann aged 16 son of Henry Mann and his father were acquitted at a two day preliminary hearing before Judge Adams on charges of assault with intent to commit murder. The complaining witness Fred Elliott aged 20 testified of being shot in the neck chest and shoulder during an alleged melon raid. Claude Baker and Leslie Leek were also injured in the incident involving melon thieves.

Veteran Henry Crance Dies After Civil War Service
Henry A Crance died at his Janesville home on September 13 1907 after weeks of illness. A Civil War veteran born in 1841 in Troy New York he enlisted in 1862 and saw action including Pickett duty at Annapolis Junction and guard duty near a railroad bridge. He survived wounds, typhoid fever and long hospital stays before discharge in October 1864. He married Rebecca in 1858 and funeral services were held September 15 conducted by I O O F with Rev Smith in attendance.
