William Rivers sues Everett Wheeler for 50000 damages claiming Wheeler caused the alienation of Rivers's wife Mrs Rivers. The case details an eight year secret arrangement to hide relations while Rivers and Mrs Rivers lived in adjacent rooms at Knapp Mansion in Brooklyn and Wheeler frequently joined them for dinners theater trips and trips across the country. Rivers says he confronted Wheeler several times and kept quiet for his daughter's sake.
Obituary notice for Mrs Frances Fentimen and James Brainard Merrill. Fentiman, 84, died at her daughter's home in Waterloo after a long illness, born August 22, 1822 in Lancaster County, PA. Survived by one daughter and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merrill, a longtime Buchanan County farmer, died at his Waterloo home after months of illness. had lived in Winthrop area earlier. Funeral details for both are given with locations in Waterloo and nearby cemeteries.
June 20, 1840, and lived there practically all his life. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen and the Modern Brotherhood. His remains will be taken over the fillingis Central tomorrow morning to his old home, where he will be buried at Hickory Grove cemetery in Liberty township. Short services will be held at the home in this city conducted by Rev. H. W. Reherd of the First Presbyterian church, of which he was a lifelong member, and the pastor of the Presbyterian church at Winthrop will have charge of the funeral, which will be held at Winthrop at 2 30 on Saturday. Deceased leaves a wife and five children, four boys and one girl, who are all at home William, employed for the Iowa Dairy, Ray, Waterloo Register company, Lloyd, Litchfield Manufacturing company, Rollo and Lenés, both in school. Five sisters and two brothers also survive: Mrs. Jane Berger, Nancy Merrill and Albert Merrill, Winthrop, Mrs. D. Milne, Creighton, Nels, Mrs. Chas. Boone, Coggan, Mrs. Alice Slimmons, Independence, John Merrill, Liver nore.
An auto party from New York including Messrs Lacock Howard Rice and another gentleman passed through Jubilee Sept 1 en route to Quasqueton to review proposed extension of the Chicago Anamosa and Northwestern from Daggon to Waterloo. They discussed construction roles and arranged a business meeting in Quasqueton. Jubilee would lie on the line if built.
On September 5 in Greene a marriage joined D. H. Ellis and Garrie Trimble. Ellis, a washior at Farmers' Savings Bank, recently moved to Greene from Pleasantville and is a Penn College graduate who studied law. Trimble, lifelong Greene resident, is a Carlton College alumna. After a two week wedding tour, the couple will reside in Greene.
Cleveland Sept 7 Mayor Becker of Milwaukee says he did not hear Bryan speak and has paid no attention to politics since leaving Cleveland for New York. He doubts Bryan will be nominated if he runs, believing his chances for reaching the White House are less encouraging than before.
Pinkey one of the two beloved cats cared for by Benjamin F. Dilley dies in Wilkes-Barre after a throat tumor. Executors consented to chloroform as the cat received medical attention. The pet had occupied a grand $40,000 home with a nurse kept for its care, under the late benefactor’s will.
Jesup reports the death of Miss Baith Hersh at age 15 from a long illness of typhoid fever. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nevin B. Hersh of Barelay township and sister of Engineer Charles Hersh of Waterloo. Survived by parents, several brothers and sisters and many friends. Funeral from the Barelay township residence tomorrow at 2:30 PM.
A thief stole an oil painting from a library and left a boastful note from Raffles demanding money. Police traced footprints and head prints, but clues faded as Chief Sweitner shifted tactics. The painting, valued at 100 to 150 dollars, may yet be recovered before a grim warning comes true.
The infant child of Mr and Mrs Roy Hoover died today at age three days. Grief funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 pm at their home 515 East Sixth Street and burial in Fairview cemetery. The parents mourn the untimely loss of their briefborn daughter.
