A deadly railcar wreck on October 22 near Atlantic City left about eighty dead as cars plunged from a trestle into deep water. Survivors describe passengers leaping from windows while others were trapped. twenty Royal Artillery band members were aboard, with some bodies recovered.
A rear car derailed from a bridge and plunged into a river. Motorman Scott and Conductor Curtis perished while Bradman Wood and Henry Roemer aided passengers before escaping. A strong current hampered rescue. Italian Mareo Boan died from injuries after being pulled from the third car.
Among the dead are Walter Scott of Atlantic City motorman Fran de Saceseno Royal Artillery band member FP Dempsey and wife Frank Monroe and wife of Camden with five bodies unidentified Vincente Dou ei Royal Artillery band Pasquello Mazelle Philadelphia and P Anguroeso both from Vosca hand an unidentified woman wearing a welding ring marked T TP LN G2 and two other rings with a pearl ring details indicate continuation of a tragic loss with several victims not yet identified.

San Francisco October 29 Attorney General Webb announced that Ruef ally Boss Ruef, recognized by the court as district attorney, will take charge of the office and appoint Francis Heney special prosecutor in the boodle case. The move sparked panic among Ruef supporters who feared evidence would be blocked from the grand jury. Ruef insisted he would remove evidence from the grand jury and submit it to lawyers if confirmed. In Fonnville Idaho October 11. Frank Fruling, a retired merchant now living in Fonnville, is indicted by the grand jury and jailed on 35000. He is accused of starting a July 11 fire that destroyed Lyonville, causing about 100000 in losses as residents fled. The charge centers on alleged arson to collect insurance.
Marion Mays, in Paris, remanded for grand jury action after a holdup at Ol Vet store. Handy, the clerk, wrestled for a revolver, was struck, and both men tumbled through a door into the street. Handy recovered the weapon and fought Mays until he was unconscious. Mays fled by automobile to the city.
