Shell Rock items include social visits, anniversary plans, travels to the Pacific coast, church activities, and local shop changes.
Trade Journals announce Waterloo Times Tribune will launch an evening edition alongside its morning issue. The move adds to four daily papers in the city, pleasing advertisers and readers. City excitement rests on the rare on time Great Western No 3, while locals plan future moves for the Cranny family from Blessing to Clinton County.
RE Duke Navza is seriously ill in St Josephs Hospital St Paul after two weeks of treatment for ill health and alarming complications. An abdominal abscess was operated on but Navza gradually improved with skilled care as loved ones and doctors work toward a speedy recovery.
News from Linden Place reports preaching at the chapel Sunday at 4 p m. Mr Isenhour suffered a severe foot injury when a wheel fell on it and will be off work long. Mrs Dewitt Perry’s home hosted a farewell gathering for Mrs Perry’s visitor and Mr Perry’s birthday. Mr and Mrs William Ball plan to move to California with gifts of a souvenir spoon and painted cup and saucer. Several residents, including Mr and Mrs Fred Bishop, head to Omaha then Colorado. Barn work nears completion for Rhinehart and Montgomery. Park family to join kin in Missouri. Cedar Rapids move anticipated for M Root family.

Dr R Triem and A Pinch of Manchester vacation with B E Triem family. Mr and Mrs A G Smith and Mrs Wilson of Bancroft visit the Christopher household. Levi Bahr injures wrist in a scaffold accident at Clark Hoyt farm. Mrs Z Fuller and Mrs George Jangen return from Charles City. Mr and Mrs Howrey and two children of Spring Creek visit Waterloo relatives. James Howrey of Phoenix arrives to stay with John Howrey. Mrs L Boomhower returns from six weeks with relatives near Anamosa. Mrs J A Griffin returns to Burlington after visiting her father John McQuilkin.

At the grand lodge of the Odd Fellows in Des Moines on October 18 nominations were adopted for next June’s elections. Indicated posts include Grand Master L. W. White of Woodbine and Deputy Grand Master Dan Gun of Red Oak with a slate of officers led by Grand Secretary R. L. Tilton of Des Moines and Grand Treasurer J. H. Rozema of Keystone, among others. Nominations for orphan’s home committee were made with M. P. Sharis and J. H. Yetz. Sharis will serve another term. Rebekah assembly greeted the body, stressing cooperation with the grand lodge. an amendment set a six day deadline for election result reports to the deputy grand master.
General Grenville M. Dodge halted vandals aiming to cut two historic trees, the Crttenden oak and the Boyd apple tree, after telegramming President Roosevelt Taft and others. The commission had allowed work on a Grant statue site, and Dodge’s actions secured temporary protection amid nightly threats to the trees.

Representatives of the William Galloway company led by William Galloway have completed a state fair tour across seven states. Their crowded tent at Des Moines Minneapolis Sioux City Lincoln Hutchison and other venues boosted direct sales while the Galloway Spreader won a first premium as the best manure spreader. The firm expanded offices doubling space and planning a Falls avenue site for a new general offices and warehouses with H Hudson joining after long service at Montgomery Ward. The Waterloo business supports a large postage bill and ongoing growth, with farmers’ confidence in Galloway reflected in local praise.
Deputy Fish and Game Wardens Yordy and Greene captured violators along the Muscatine Sloughs in Louisiana County. Arrested were Oscar Ryden Ira Buster Peter Young Charles Patterson Andrew Wheeler O J Derby and Eugens Blaik all poor men fined an average of 53 dollars with jail for nonpayment. Offenses included selling and netting. 35 hoop nets and several large seines were burned valued at 4009 dollars. Yordy left briefly for home then returned this afternoon.
