Bohemian farmer killed by falling tree near Clutter
Joseph Hada cek of Traer, about fifty five, was crushed when a tree fell at the G. R. Brown farm near Clutter. He died early Thursday after being badly injured Wednesday while cutting trees. He left two wives and eight to ten grown children and owned the Fisher farm east of Clutter. Dr Pace of Elberon attended but could not aid him. He was well known across the county and had many relatives.

Lightning burns FL E Dickey barn at Grundy Center
Grundy Center October 4 the FL E Dickey barn on the south edge of town was struck by lightning and destroyed. The 30 by 50 foot structure held hay ten head of shoats one cow and calf about 50 bushels of old corn and small machinery. The bolt likely struck the roof apex igniting the hay. Mrs Myra Lilnbridge lost a cow outside the barn. Insurance was absent and nearby hydrants failed to reach the blaze despite a large crowd and rain.

Independence on October 4 reports Swan and Parker's Jewelry store robbed of about 1000 dollars in jewelry. Robbers entered through an upstairs window from the John Burke barber shop and escaped unseen. A 54 dollar reward was offered for their capture and conviction. no clues by noon.
