Local notes report frost damage to corn, livestock feed delivered by Grandpa Buss, and a watermelon theft at George Fink’s garden. Community members travel to Benton County, Waterloo, and Marshalltown for visits, weddings, and church events as harvest plans loom and health issues are noted.
Mrs. W. E Hat trends to Waverly to visit parents while H. Ladage and wife return from Water loo. The canning factory closed for season. The Woodman picnic on the 24th was noted as successful given the weather. Local ball saw Fairbanks defeated 8 to 1 by the Locals. Numerous social visits and travels among residents of Tripoli and nearby towns are listed, including dances, weddings, and relatives visiting from Waterloo Waverly Readly and Westgate.
Mrs Timothy O Keefe of Waterloo hosted at Mrs Driver home Thursday. Mrs Ella Hobson and niece Ella Touglass attended Zeola Fuller wedding at Anamosa last week. Various residents visited in Waterloo and nearby towns including Miss Richie of LeMars, Iowa State Normal student, and Mr and Mrs A Harris of Waterloo. Also noted. Joe Teeter lost a horse last week.
The Otterville Grange fair will be held October 2 offering farm products and local displays. Funeral services for Anna Lowry were held at the Brown home in Barclay with many attending. Des Moines visitors Jean Brown and others attended the funeral. Heavy rainfall disrupted corn harvesting, delaying field work. John Hersh returned from Mexico. Ned Oliver visited Barclay while planning to move to Waterloo next spring. Miss Dunlap is teaching in District 6. Miss Barak Sherman attended Ackley sauerkraut festivities. Local acquires include S Ross visiting Waterloo and property moves by N Hersh and A Baughman. Mrs. Joseph Potter to hold a public sale October 6 east of Tesup and plan relocation to Jesup. Threshing completes with some poor crop quality noted.
Denver people spent days in Tripoli at the Moellers home. Several residents traveled to Waterloo for illnesses and business, with visits to Waverly and Me Vernon. Containing names of Steege Kehe Meyer Mohling and other local residents across last week.
Arthur J. McColl ex temperance lecturer and his wife Lillian Meredith, once childhood sweethearts,eloped as youths and later divorced. McColl now marries his former sweetheart. both women are musicians. The couple reside briefly in Waterloo and Des Moines while planning a new venture.
Nelwelh Register reports Tony Gentle, an Italian bachelor, and Lena Meércurie secretly wed in Dubuque after Lena’s parents arranged a Chicago fiancé. The elopers, now guests at John Lazia’s home, plan a Cedar Rapids trip after a few days in the city. Lena’s spark and independence are noted as key factors in the marriage.
Waverly notes recall an annual outing held Sunday on the Otter river four miles north of town. Max Radat led the event as orator while Herman Mahanke oversaw the commissary. Frank Roehl was top fisherman, with Jack Quinby close behind. one new member Jake Reich joined. Nearby farm reports praise corn yields around 80 bushels per acre, signaling a strong corn belt outlook for the area.
In Dubuque on October 1 two special trains carried more than 260 of 1 460 workers from Celwein to Chicago and other eastern cities amid a strike by boilermakers machinists and blacksmiths. Officials claim newcomers will fill vacancies and shops run in good shape though costs rise. A Dubuque party found central shops unaffected and the strike orderly, with confidence it will end favorably for the workers. David Seigel, manager of his father's pawnshop at 318 Walnut street, disappeared Friday at 1 pm. About $45 in cash, a diamond, and some watches were missing. Reports recount family histories, including Seigel's son Louis' spendthrift past and a daughter Minnie's elopement with baritone Wallace Pike. An ordinance to license employment bureaus was approved, with a $50 annual fee and bond.

Record highs reached 88 on Sept 15 and 16. a killing frost on Sept 25 froze at 22 degrees, likely killing late corn. Normal temp 63.3, mean 63.4, max 74.22, min 42.47. precipitation 2.25 vs 4.31 normal.
Citizens petition the Board of Supervisors to vacate county road No. 486 starting west of the northeast corner of section 5-87-14 and running diagonally to intersect road 486 near the Waterloo and Hidora road, then reestablish on the north side of the half section line between northeast 3 and southeast 4 in 5-87-14, with a westward final segment about 80 rods to connect to the existing road. The notice is signed by J. J. Rainbow, Auditor, with dates and related notices interwoven among road and publication lines.
Water loom: Ernest David, an elderly farmer near Waterloo Ta, was saved by a dream her wife had while away visiting. She rushed home after dreaming he burned, found smoke at the house, dragged him to safety as the roof collapsed. He remained unconscious and unable to move during the blaze.
