Rebok Named Defendant Again in Indian Damages Case

Horace M. Rebok former Sac and Fox agent at Tama is sued for damages by Ma Ka Ta Qua Twa known as Black Cloud in a federal action filed by Icave of Judge Shiras. The amended petition alleges Rebok falsely enrolled Black Cloud’s son and aided a double annuity scheme causing Black Cloud to be charged and convicted.

District meeting to select nine delegates for grand lodge

A convention of Modern Brotherhood of America delegates in the Third district will gather tomorrow at the Modern Woodman hall in Waterloo to choose nine representatives for the grand lodge session in Sioux City on October 22. Delegates come from Dubuque and surrounding counties. 126 total delegates will attend.

Seventeen Die In Wellington Colliery Fire and Explosion

Seventeen men died in a fire and explosion at Wellington colliery extension mine near Victoria on October 1. The blaze started from a curtain ignited by a miner's lamp. Race Start Promises Tight Century Sail Clash

The 3:40 race between Columbia and Shamrock opened with a light variable wind New York Oct 1. Start times saw Columbia 11:10 Shamrock 11:23 as both boats battled becalmed conditions. By 2:20 Shamrock led, then Columbia rallied, turning the first mark Shamrock 2 41 36 Columbia 4 3 05. The Shamrock held the lead in light airs with the wind easing.

Nomination filing closes Octob er 16 for county offices

C W Lyfe sues Illinois Central for back wages totaling 719.80 with interest dating from December 12, 1900. The case, begun in district court with a jury already selected, covers claimed oral wage increases from 12 to 18 to 74 cents per hour and includes detailed hourly accounts through December 1900.
