The Walker family plans to move to Waterloo next week to join L. Walker in the lumber business with W. R. Walker. The family has been prominent in La Porte City, with L. Walker active in retail grocery and real estate and a longtime Presbyterian Church volunteer and city council member. Mrs. Walker and Nina will oversee the move as Hal Goodwin visits Waterloo for undisclosed business. EB. Duke Naven progresses at the hospital and Mrs. Naven plans to stay in St. Paul until he can return home.
Raymond reports Rev L D Perry visiting en route to Brandon where he will serve as pastor. WL oC Johnson visited his mother in Raymond but met his sister Mauda Waterfield. Ida Kieffer and George Radler from Dubuque send gifts. Local social life includes a party hosted by Mrs Bierdsley, field work continues as farmers gather corn, and families move with new pastors arriving. The Raymond school term ends under Miss Elizabeth Halfen who then visits Chicago.
Mt Vernon Township reports visitors including Myrtle Gorton and May Ostrander visiting grandparents west of Cedar Fall a family quilting session at Mrs Ostrander s draws about twenty ladies. Mayme Leversee visited Des Moines with her sister Blanche. Burrell Bennett suffers wrist pain causing limited use. Loren Ostrander and Clarence Albright families moved nearby. Cooper family moved to Waterloo. F E Burkhart J Askey families enjoy large mallard ducks. John Callahan renovations on barn area. Mrs Wiedomler of Denver staying with her mother.
Reinbeck News reports Dalton Galloway brother of Wm Galloway of Waterloo attends Monmouth College and won first prize of 20 in the annual William H Lyons Political Speech contest held Friday October 25. His winning speech nominated Theodore Roosevelt for a third term and was praised as simple yet forceful. Also noted is Will Barker’s fire loss at his farm south of town last Sunday and a sharp potato price drop from about 59 to 40–42 cents due to an influx of northern grown stock.
In East Waterloo Township a farmer reports only about five bushels of good corn per load of twenty-five, leaving one-fifth marketable. Mrs. Englert is ill. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nic Wellner, bringing their children to two boys and two girls. Dave Schuler bought a new wagon. A youth from Minnesota visited the area seeking a place to work. The Barclay school board meets November 4 at Center school house. Public sales continue in the neighborhood as winter coal is largely secured. Rev. Father Horsefield plans services in Barclay on November 1 through 3.
Hugh Stevenson is on the sick list while Mrs. Marihart has left for a one month visit in Dubuque.
Mies Tillie Buese visited sister Mrs. Léwis Gissel while Reuben Bardeen and wife spent Friday in Hazleton. Farmers Diehl Brothers finish threshing. A W Manross visiting relatives in Pennsylvania. Blanche Dunlap closes term in Hazleton township and enjoys vacation. Dell Bright adds to barn. WW Dunlap handles work. Co C and J Muthaler with Leander Minton attend Aberdeen Angus cattle sale at Aurora where Minton and Muthalers bought cattle. Miss Ligzie Weise, guest of Gissel Freed and Busse, returns to Milwaukee. Lit tleton teachers and pupils present a program, basket social. $25 net for an organ for the primary room. Mr and Mrs McGlaughlin and Mr and Mrs T D Bright attend the Lulof Seeman wedding in Jefferson township. Ed Seeman, boyhood neighbor, and friends extend best wishes.
Glen Edsall skidded from a riding plow at Chris Hilmers and broke his left arm below the elbow though the injury was not discovered for days. In town, Mr and Mrs Countryman visit Rochelle relatives while Alfred Brash and his wife return from a four week wedding trip. Grandpa Fegles reports good health after visiting Kansas and Waterloo. Carl Ripple and family return to Brighton after visiting Rev Miller’s home. Mrs Rev Willis recovers from appendicitis and Watts Billiard hall, run by Peter King and Art Kline, offers lunches to attract customers.
Farmers begin corn husking as Ike Whipkey and wife from South Dakota visit Orange. George Davis and John Harbaugh construct new hog stables. Mrs. I. W. Heltzer returns to Dubuque after a two week stay with relatives. Mrs. Simon Miller visits Mt. Morris college and is joined by daughter Mise Miller returning from India. Mise Muller, G B church missionary, visits home after seven years in India and lectures at South Waterloo church. Singing school at South Waterloo ends. Mrs. Etta Bowman of North Manchester visits as national president of the 8 SC 5 among 5 SC E workers. A. M. Lichty’s family welcomes a baby boy. Ed Stokes builds a new hog stable. Jacob Mosher moves to Colorado. Mr. Frank Smith and Ohio daughter visit friends. Smith’s wife died recently.
Shell Rock on November 1 reports Mr and Mrs WW Reed visiting Dysart with son Carl and family. Lincoln White of Waterloo visited friends in Shell Rock over the weekend. Alex Heckman is in Dixon visiting relatives. Mr and Mrs Miller of Finchford spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Leo Dewey. James Van Slyke returned from Creighton Nebraska where he was conducting business. Mrs Gitles and Ladd of Dlt- (text incomplete).
Nola friends visit Conny and Remington family. Mr and Mrs W B Remington plan a southern pleasure trip. E Keeler, formerly local, renews acquaintances while now a Amarillo real estate agent. Earl Van Vinck visits Rochelle relatives. Lawrence Mead of Denver visits his mother Emma Mead. Earl Taylor of New York City spends time with sister Mrs Alfred Apfel. former local resident and world traveler now heading to the Pacific coast. Miss Mabel Fairbank travels from Allison to visit friends.
A single smallpox case is reported in Traet involving Charles Wood in mild form. The home is quarantined for thirty days with infection limited to his wife and daughter. no public danger foreseen. Also noted is James Stevenson in poor health with heart trouble and dropsy, plus a theft at Louis Kostlan’s farm where about 175 chickens were carried off in a quiet burglary.
A. M. Crail visited his daughter Mrs Miranda Band field then left for Minneapolis to spend the winter. Mr and Mrs James Kostka moved into a newly purchased home at Colorado Street and Cottage Grove avenue. M Root traveled to Cedar Rapids on business and returned Thursday. Mr Lukes and wife, wed last Tuesday, settle in the groom’s former Boree residence. Lois Harrod leaves Wednesday for California to spend winter with her mother and sisters. Ghosts allegedly haunted Frank Chapman’s home Thursday night with guests enjoying the evening after meeting Mr and Mrs Chapman.
Jubilee IA November 2 Special reports a large wedding to be held next Wednesday for Hilda Koehb and Charles Town of Shady Grove. A big tent will host post ceremony festivities after a German Lutheran church service. Nearby, Fred Koob recently wed Augusta Town, while William Reinsche, once critical, has improved enough to speak about the home.

Shell Rock News features a tax receipt for 2.24 issued to G. W. Adair by Black Hawk county treasurer notes land 11-91-15 and 11-91-15 west half NE quarter and east half NW quarter valued 240. It marks Butler area as part of Black Hawk county history and calls the document a priceless relic.

A Cedar Township woman of Mt Auburn Iowa, Elizabeth Peck, sues the Chicago Tribune for 25000 alleging a magazine ad used her image with her child without consent. Appeals courts favor the Tribune. case heads to the U S Supreme Court for review. Peck is a Barnesett family member, widow, mother of two, with ties to Chicago and Boston.
Mary Mantin of Muscatine county passed away aged 100 after a fall that fractured her hip and weakened her. she moved to Iowa in 1862 and was a longtime Methodist worker. In Des Moines a Halloween prank ends badly as Bernard Wright, living west of the city, falls from a barn beam sustaining multiple fractures.
Dysart Iowa Nov 2 Frank Rampton of Des Moines sold his 326 acre farm three miles east of Dysart to Milne Brothers for 384580 eight hours ago an even 2108 per acre. Rampton father bought the land from the government fifty years ago for 1 25 per acre now its value has increased nearly a hundred fold. Guthrie Center Iowa Nov 2 a tramp awakening a country schoolhouse led to the conviction of horse thieves in Guthrie and Carroll counties Renslow and Elliott Hood of Guthrie county were found guilty and sentenced to eighteen months each at Anamosa.
