Found Dead Beds in Stebbins Woods Near Freeport

An elderly man about 66 was found dead Sunday morning in Stebbins woods five miles southeast of Freeport by a mushroom hunter. He wore farmerlike clothing and carried $20 bills totaling 60 cents. No foul play or suicide signs observed. He appeared to have planned shelter from the weather with bark and wood, feet crossed and hands folded as if prepared for death.

Gasoline Blaze at Readlyn Restaurant

A morning fire at 725 Sycamore Street in Readlyn burned briefly when a gasoline tank near a coffee urn flashed during refilling. Firemen arrived after the alarm and extinguished the blaze. The owner is William Bunr. John Kegan operated the gasoline supply.

Fire From Overheated Stove Damages Mrs Ricketts Home

A morning blaze at Mrs Pert Ricketts home around 10 o clock started from a hot stove in the kitchen. Fire spread to the roof but was confined mainly to the roof with damage estimated near 500 dollars, insured. The dwelling portion occupied by Mrs Ricketts suffered plaster loosening and water damage from two hose loads while most furniture was moved out safely.

State Fair Prospects for Iowa Exposition

State fair prospects promise the best Iowa state fair on record with extensive improvements for exhibitors and visitors. The premium list from Secretary J C Simpson Wes Maines shows a liberal total and an $800 increase in corn premiums to over 1200.
