Lions Attack Keeper George Tardy in Forest City Parade
In Forest City Iowa May 4 George Tardy a Waterloo boy and longtime animal keeper for Ringling Bros and the Yankee Robinson show was severely wounded in a lion attack during the parade. The lions attacked after Tardy struck one with a whip. Elephants restrained the lions and rescued him. He suffered throat wounds arm lacerations and leg injuries and was taken to Albert Lea hospital in serious but improving condition. Tardy is the eldest son of harness maker N OG Tardy and has worked with hippopotami and other animals in major circuses.

Pioneer Grocer Henry Dunnwald Dies in Waterloo
Henry J Dunnwald a Waterloo resident for 36 years and a pioneer grocer for over 25 years died at his home 408 Oak avenue after a paralytic stroke. Born in Germany September 11 1835 he emigrated to America in 1857 and to Waterloo in 1864. Survived by his wife Josephine Rosgen seven daughters and three sons, plus sisters in Germany. Funeral services will be at St Josephs Catholic church with burial in Calvary cemetery.
