Reports from Callender describe a strange late Friday night theft where two men aided a farmer, Chttender, in stealing hogs. The farmer recovered one hog, tracked the thieves across county lines, and observed the wagon and wheel securing the load before losing the trail westward.
A domestic dispute ends with Mrs. Smith firing a revolver at her husband after he attacked an in law. Smith is hospitalized. police report she acted as defense. The couple plans to divorce. In another incident a wreck near the depot disrupts freight cars when a switcher derailed onto a track.
Mrs Mary McKittrick aged 108, claimed oldest woman in America, died by self inflicted wound with a carving knife at her home near Je su o, Luke. Born March 1748 in Kildare Ireland, she lived in Ireland until old age then moved to this country with her son Luke in the early 1880s. Her kin had mostly died. she longed for Ireland and its historic spots.
Chicago church leader Voliva issued a public threat of excommunication over secret charges of immorality against John Alexander Dowie. He declared the charges would be typewritten the next morning and Dowie would have until Wednesday evening to respond, with the penalty of banishment from the Christian Catholic church if he failed to clear his name. Brasefield condemned Dowie’s claims of849 outside Zion and defended the church’s 16,000 members as he described the alleged misdeeds at Shiloh tabernacle.
GOFP New York May 1 district Attorney Jeromie's advice to the April grand jury to avoid political contributions was followed. The jury reported it had not investigated any phase of the insurance sketch and sought evidence against officials. Jerome urged restraint to avoid miscarriage of justice as the case could rise to a special grand jury in May.

A tense encounter in Plat. 7 between a pastor mayor and downtown officials led to a violent clash with the mayor hurling the minister, Pastor J Newton of the People's church, who was severely injured. Newton accused Edwards of failing to issue proper orders to police officers amid the confrontation.
A 14 year old boy, Frank Strang, aids in trapping a massive alligator found along the Mississippi near Bigle Point. The creature, weighing about 14 pounds of meat and 4 feet inches long, had a crushed jaw and was finally landed after men used a heavy chain to subdue it. Its carcass was divided among the helpers.
News of the death of E Bleshy reached friends yesterday in Waterloo. He was a pioneer who founded and ran the Waterloo Stam Dye works, later selling the business and moving to Philadelphia with his son Myrot. A letter announcing his death gave few details.
In Bagte township on September 9, 1905, John Butseh Sr. died. Ann Pillott sues Elizabeth Blitsch and others including Jacob Blitsch Christopher Milseh Ligsie Wiley and Donna Walsh alleging the alleged last will was forced by improper influence while the decedent was mentally unfit. The will was admitted for probate at the September term.
The will challenges a widow’s claim to a homestead rent at 4 1 Cherry street Watertoo and $200 from 220 acres in Bagie township. It bequests $7,000 to Anna Elliott, $1,560 to Christena Walsh, $6,400 to Elizabeth Witty, $2,000 to John Butsch with mortgage of $1,800 on Eagle township farm, and residue to Javol Blitsch and Christopher Blitsch. Waterloo Township assessed values include animals, cattle, sheep, swine, cows, dogs, money and credits totaling $41,468. April filings at the county recorder show 461 papers filed and $207.70 in fees. 23 marriage licenses issued in April 1906. An adultery petition was filed by Frank R. Sundertin against Lola B. Sundertin in district court, citing seven years’ residence in Black Hawk county, alleging inhuman treatment, threats to life, vulgar language, and adultery. J. Murtagh represents plaintiff.
Jeremiah Snyder died at midnight in a hospital at Iowa City after being sent there for liver and kidney trouble. An operation was attempted to relieve a long standing hernia from the Civil War era but no liver kidney procedure was done. He leaves a wife and six grown children. funeral arrangements pending.
In Mt. Auburn Illinois a 10 year old girl, daughter of John Gott, fell from the roof of a shed Sunday evening sustaining serious injuries. One shoulder broken and other injuries reported.
Edward Baldenecker, son of Mrs. I. M. Baldenecker of 1026 Randolph Street, has returned home from the Philippines after seven years with the regular army and Manila city fire department. He served seven years in the army and four in Manila's fire service. He enjoyed a three months leave, witnessed the San Francisco earthquake aftermath, and plans to return after his leave. He praises Manila’s modern fire stations and equipment, notes a majority of American firemen, and predicts economic growth with railway expansion and agricultural progress.
San Francisco reports a plan pushed by former Mayor Phelan to have the government guarantee two hundred million dollars in municipal bonds issued to rebuild the city after the earthquake. Coroner Walsh warns of a death toll rising to as many as 1,500, with debris removal continuing. A New York finance syndicate is said to consider supplying up to 1000000 on a bond and mortgage basis, via Senator Newlands, with New York financiers reportedly nearly ready to commit.

In Jesup on May 2 special report, Guy Jenks wedding to 17 or 18 year old Cora Cornelius occurred at the bride’s home with Mayor L. R Bordner officiating. Jenks, a former barber from Shell Rock, recently moved from Witerton and has a prior daughter and wife mentioned in local notes. New telephony operators Mrs Voorhles and daughter Veretta will relocate to Taunt to assume exchange duties with Veretta already beginning work.
