Evidence before the coroner's jury showed the body pulled from the river last night is Peter Ross of Des Moines, not Fred Loerch. An ash gang arrest on suspicion was released today, and Ross likely was murdered in Des Moines with his body dumped in the river.
John Lavender files in superior court seeking to stop Rev Edward B Crawford pastor of Woodlawn Park Methodist church and Steward church trustees from circulating the confession Mary Lavender wife of the plaintiff made to Crawford The resignation of Rev John D Leek of Western Avenue Methodist church is noted Judge Barnes refused the injunction due to lack of notice to the other side.
Pisinfield March 6 Special With the winter term closing Elmer M Folks grammar department teacher completed fifty consecutive terms in the same school. Seventeen years without a break makes a record hard to beat in this state. Many former pupils have become teachers across the state. Mr Folks has remained in the post through all changes of principal and primary teacher, delivering excellent satisfaction.
Grant Rush awaiting trial for grand larceny escaped Mason City jail last night by sawing through bars. Seven other prisoners attempted to flee but lacked courage. Rush remains at large with no trace found.
In Nashville the Cooper Sharp murder case of former Senator B W Day Mack saw jurors press for quicker terms amid court delays. Both sides avoided conflict to not antagonize the panel while striving to expedite proceedings. A small crowd attended as Judge Hart called court to order and General McCarn's arrival was awaited.
In Hillsboro, Henry Green, a blacksmith, murdered his wife at Parmee, then killed himself. The tragedy occurred at the home of Mrs. Green’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, during a visit about a divorce suit Mrs. Green had filed.
Two heavily veiled women robbed Lemuel F. Owen a Racine clerk of $75 and a $10 check and Richard Jones an attorney of $10 near the First National Bank entrance in Chicago. Detectives arrested the women who revealed the names Mamie Smith and Lena Foater after removing their veils.
In Cleveland Tepn March a 60 year old Davis Coffman bought dynamite, attached a fuse, and blew himself up. The blast tore Coffman's head from his shoulders and shredded his torso. Family troubles are cited as the motive. Eliegan Michigan March 6. Elion Baldwin, who killed his mother Mary Baldwin on their Begatnek Wharadey farm, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Des Moines Senate approved by 32 to 6 a Cosson bill prohibiting grain, creamery goods, chickens, and eyes dealers from discriminatory pricing aimed at crushing small competitors. The House also passed the Hackler bill allowing cities with populations over 7,000 to choose a commission form of government if approved by voters.
New York report shows loans rising by 3.458 million, deposits falling by 8. …, circulation up 922 thousand, reserve down 4.107 million, surplus down 2.66 million. U. S. excess deposits decline 2.145 million.
Ottumwa women from local groups call a 2 pm mass meeting at the Courier library to denounce Des Moines women for praising the murderer of Miss Clara Rosen. Washington March 4 A young heroine Miss Mary McCann will be awarded a gold medal at the Capitol on March 18 for saving nine children at North Brothers Island New York during the Gen Slocum disaster era rescue effort. Then a student at Florence Crittenden Training School she risked illness to reach the water’s edge and guide children to safety. The ceremony in the speaker’s room will be attended by the vice president and Representative Goulden of New York among others.

A wild stampede at dismissal sent students rushing to the stairs where a crush occurred leaving about a dozen hurt and six unconscious before aid arrived.
Judge Fischer of Wyandotte district court last night appointed W M Whitelaw receiver for the Christie Grant company. Habilities estimated around $125,000. William Giffran, a farmer worth $60,000, was found guilty at Le Mars this morning of stealing twelve hogs from a neighbor in a case reported by the Iowa Evening Press from Sioux City dated March.
Scott MacRaynolds of Brooklyn New York filed a $10,000 damages suit in Guthrie Oklahoma against Gov Charles N Haskell Orville T Smith law secretary John Mahoney Logan county sheriff Robert A Lunsford over seizure of papers tied to the governor's $600,000 suit against William R Hearst. The seizure was ruled illegal by the court.

In Keokuk a fire at the University Homeopathic hospital injured a patient and her year old baby. The mother Mrs Arthur Meyer died from burns while the infant sustained minor injuries.
Seattle March 6 With its wireless equipment the Japanese steamship Aki completed a 4240 mile passage from Yokohama to Puget Sound staying in touch with both shores Captain Nagao notes wireless service was aided by other vessels and stations in Japan and British Columbia The Aki relayed messages to a Japan bound ship and later to Vancouver Island stations as she approached Puget Sound
Wilkesbarre Pa March The anthracite district officers of the United Mines Workers of America meet with national president Thomas L Lewis and about half of the forty national organizers in the hard coal fields to draft demands for the operators The group plans to submit terms in New York next week covering an eight hour day union dues check off weighing coal and higher pay for outside men The mine workers anticipate a possible suspension of work after March 21 while negotiations proceed The field organizers are actively recruiting as thousands have let dues lapse since the last strike
The Kansas anti cigarette law took effect last night and, in Topeka, no cigarette or cigarette paper could be found today. Local dealers repacked stocks for shipment back to the factory.
Lincoln Neb March 6 R Mead Shumway was hanged at 2 23 pm after the supreme court refused a stay and Gov Shallenberger did not intervene. He proclaimed innocence as the trap fell. The knot slipped, the neck broke, and the body swung with violent twitching until life ended. Attendants adjusted the knot and cut him down to reveal a deep neck wound.
In Caruthersville Missouri, Rev Lyman F Jackson, pastor of the Methodist church, confessed loving Miss Cora Short a schoolteacher and church worker. Despite his wife and three children, Jackson agreed to leave his office after a church meeting voted him divested. Miss Short resigned from her post near Dubie schools and declined further comment.
New York March 6 Daniel Watford known as Lincoln's double died Wednesday night at age 87 after a stroke followed by a fatal blood clot. His remarkable resemblance to Abraham Lincoln was renowned and Lincoln once joked you wouldn’t look more like me unless you were me.

In Nashville on March 6 the state pressed its case in the Cooper trial. It impeached 8.J. Binning who claims to have seen the shooting and questioned the Coopers' presence on Seventh avenue the day of the killing. The governor and others’ testimony was challenged and a perjury warrant issued for Binning after he testified Carmack twirled a revolver. Further witnesses were called to rebut Binning’s account of Carmack’s presence at the Tennesseean office.
Madison March 6 Democratic members of the Wisconsin Legislature adopted a resolution to repudiate John F Farrell Thomas Ramsey and Silas Towne for leaving their seats before a United States senator vote. The action aided sixty three Republicans in the election of Isaac Stephenson while an investigation was pending per the party platform.
Thirty armed tramps attacked Southern Pacific freight No 2 three miles west of Ontario California. Conductor Sutherlana of Los Angeles was clubbed into unconsciousness. A Los Angeles bound passenger train arrived during the attack and passengers helped drive the vagrants off. Posses captured fourteen suspects.

Joseph W. Blythe general counsel of the Burlington Route died suddenly at his hunting lodge near Wapello in Louisa county at 5 30 this morning. He was born January 16 1850 in Mercer county New Jersey a Princeton graduate who joined Burlingtons law department in 1876 and later led the Standpat Republicans of Iowa. He is survived by his widow and son Hugh and was son in law of former Iowa governor John H Gear.
