Man Killed by Train Near Duncombe on Way to Sea Voyage

Charles B King, about 41, was struck by a passenger train No 21 near Duncombe two miles east of the town while walking on the tracks en route to Chicago and onward to the British Isles. The coroner ruled death accidental with no blame. He had recently left the county poor farm for work on the Younglas farm and planned to sail for the British Isles. The body was sent to Iowa City for clearance before relatives claim. The event occurred July 22 at 12:40 pm and witnesses included Engineer Dubois, fireman, and Conductor W N Barr.

Death of Prank Clark Henry at Waterloo

Prank Clark Henry son of Mr and Mrs D C Henry of Waterloo died at noon Sunday from heart failure after a period of illness. Born September 13 1876 in Mt Vernon township he lived with his parents who moved to Waterloo in 1880. He leaves two sisters Mabel Dickey and Bertha M Henry. Funeral at the Logan avenue home tomorrow at 2 30 conducted by Rev A Baker. burial in Mt Vernon township family cemetery.

In St. Louis on July 24 Miss Annie Gross 25 died while dieting to slim down. An inquest found the stomach walls nearly eaten away by vinegar and pickles eaten as she restricted foods to shed weight. Her brother Adolph Gross testified she avoided meats and heavy foods, subsisting on pickles and vinegar and lost flesh rapidly until death.
