At 4 am after a Fourth of July celebration, Ernest Koehnke shot Miss Lucy Fischer in the heart near her family's farm south of Manning and then killed himself. The tragedy stems from Koehnke's jealous, unreciprocated affection. Fischer's death shocks a prominent community.
An information filed in Hancock County Probate Court charges Standard Oil and John D. Rockefeller with conspiring to monopolize petroleum production transportation refining purchase and sale. If convicted Rockefeller could face six months to four years in Toledo workhouse and fines up to five thousand sixty dollars, with appeal available to higher courts.
Miss Aura Klein a trained nurse died at Presbyterian hospital Waterloo after a seventeen day illness. She had just completed training at Iowa Malls hospital a month ago and came to Waterloo to care for fever patients. Born in Knox County in 1881 she died at age 25. Parents Mr and Mrs William Kleluvne unknown.
In Fenton Kossuth county seven siblings and three brothers survive the deceased who was a Catholic parishioner. The body lies at O'Keefe Towne undertaking parlors awaiting transport to Bancroft for funeral services tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock.
Funeral services for Leo Hollar and Howard Perry, youths who drowned in Crumline lake Wednesday, were held at 11 o'clock this morning at the Raymond Methodist church. The ceremony drew a large crowd of relatives and friends from both families.

Harlan caucus shows Cummins sweeping. Democratic calls and Wright County sentiment add to a tense election landscape across Iowa and neighboring Indiana towns.
Fire destroyed two outbuildings and their contents near Black Hawk township, threatening the residence of Byron Sergeant. Loss includes hay, machinery, harness, two corn cribs, a chicken house, several chickens, two cows, and grain. Unable to save the structures, firefighters and neighbors fought with buckets for over an hour. the scene also damaged a kitchen area, and the total loss runs into thousands of dollars. Mr. Sergeant, a early settler arriving in 1853, has occupied the pioneer's farm for decades.

Rev Christian Hupt pastor of Barclay Center United Presbyterian Church and his bride were welcomed home last week by about a hundred congregants. A reception followed at the church with supper ice cream and cake on the lawn of the parsonage. The congregation presented a fine dining room set as a token of love and esteem. The social event marked a generous welcome to Rev and Mrs Hupt.
Directors of Black Hawk County Farmers Insurance met at L. H. Brenson’s office and settled fire losses from Tom Barker’s barn. Nic Wiliner of Dewar received 250 for two horses and 15 for harness damage. Peter Delagardelle of Waterloo received 125 for one horse killed and 125 for one horse injured plus harness damage. Jacob Schmitz of Raymond got 312 for one horse injured and 76 for another. Total payout 740 with all parties satisfied.
A life policy totaling $149 000 linked to the Stanford White murder case has been paid to Mrs. White by the Equitable Life Assurance Society. Additional policies worth $45 000 each remain pending claim. White was in poor health when taken out, with contracts stipulating reduced payouts if death occurred within a set period. Portland July 7 A D Puterbeen found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the government in public lands. He was sentenced to two years in jail and fined 7600. The verdict marks a sharp victory for federal prosecutors in the Oregon land fraud investigation.
