Wright Bird Has Wing Broken On Fort Myer Flight
Washington July 3. The Wright brothers lost motor power on their aeroplane during a second Fort Myer trial. Orville Wright landed the craft with its right wing badly damaged after hitting a tree. the machine skidded and the skids broke. Wright remained unhurt and the brothers planned repairs at Dayton. The two flights reached higher speed than earlier attempts, averaging about 37 miles per hour, with the craft exceeding 40 under a light breeze. Wright blamed a miscalculation for the wing strike and noted the motor had shown prior trouble. The craft will not fly again before Tuesday at the earliest after parts are shipped.

Pfatt of Robinson Pratt tailoring firm, lives at 3811 Grand Blvd. She says Pfatt twice proposed in 1905 and 1905 October, and she accepted in December, later claiming she was driven from the Bliss home after discovering she was not legally adopted. Duffy Widow of Fairbank Farmer Dies at 63
Mrs Michael Duffy aged 63 died at her Fairbank home Tuesday June 9 1909 after months of illness. Born Joanna McNamara in County Clare Ireland November 1845 she came to America at age five and later settled in Fairbank. She married Michael Duffy in Dubuque in 1860 and lived on the family farm for nearly fifty years. She leaves a husband seven sons five daughters and a brother Roger McNamara of Fairbank. Funeral Thursday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Fairbank with Rev Donohue officiating. burial in Fairbank Catholic Cemetery. Floral tributes notable from the K C lodge of Oelwein where son William belongs.

In Waterbury Connecticut Joseph Cormier aged from Somersville spent a Sunday afternoon playing ball for three hours. He cooled with two dishes of ice cream and cold soda then worked at packing ice. A sudden chill caused temporary blindness deafness and paralysis on the right side. Doctors say the loss of speech may become permanent though sight and hearing returned after twenty four hours. The case is considered rare by physicians.
