George W. Couch has nearly completed a two story warehouse on Mill square near the bridge. The 73 by 26 foot building will have a commodious basement and be built mostly of wood in a substantial manner. It will store roos and grain.
The East Waterloo post office has shifted from Cedar City in the township to the village building on the east bank of the river formerly used by M. R. Rush as a store. Pz Brainard, Esquire, is appointed postmaster. Subscribers may switch paper delivery to the new office. The first meeting of the Waterloo.

Alason City reporter notes that Dudgie Joseph J. Clarke yesterday sustained the validity of stickers used on primary ballots. The Ledge stickers with echoes opposite the printed names are deemed legal.

In Zion City Chicago on June 28 the Methodist denomination dedicated a new church costing 15000 dollars. About 400 attendees heard Bishop W F McDowell preach and Rev W V Shepard lead evening services. Rev James Rowe urged giving and raised 3000 dollars amid celebrations and warnings of takeovers by rival sects.
New York stocks fell sharply on June 28 and left prices at their yearly low. St Paul Atchison U S Steel and Amalgamated Copper led declines as bear traders intensified selling. a large first hour trading volume preceded a later partial recovery that failed to reverse the downward drift.

Washington June 28 Dr Harvey Wiley chief of the bureau of chemistry department of agriculture loses part of his power under the new agricultural appropriation bill. The solicitor will supervise and direct the department's legal work leaving Wiley mainly with laboratory duties. His power to issue citations for questionable food or drug products is curtailed as examinations must now proceed under solicitor oversight.
Washington June 28 after three months of hearings the house committee investigating ship subsidy allegations closed with an unofficial finding that no congress member was corrupt. Two western editors testified a lobby existed but offered no concrete details. The panel rebuked editor Shaw for unsubstantiated claims of steamship reps in congress.
Police report a one year old and a 10 year old burglarized the Schaible grocery at 425 Independence Avenue. The younger boy, barefoot and grimy, acted as lookout while the older boy entered, stealing small items in broad daylight. Officials determined a punishment plan is pending.
In Irwinville Georgia on June 28 560 distressed mothers watched as two militia companies fired hundreds of shots into W H Bostwicks house. He killed two officers and wounded three during a Sunday arrest attempt. After he died deputies and officers were wounded and the children were saved. Families and neighbors pleaded with Governor Brown to halt the siege.

Mrs Sherman wife of Vice President James Schoolcraft Sherman has been a patient at St John s hospital in Baltimore since Friday. A statement says she is suffering a breakdown and the case is not serious. No information was obtained about the exact nature of the illness. She passed a fairly good night.

United States Senator Samuel Douglas MecEnery died at his New Orleans home at 10 oclock after arriving from Washington with indigestion. He was 74, long known as an independent Democrat who often voted with Republicans, especially on tariff. Governor Sanders expected to succeed him as party leaders arrange the election.
Wilfred Andrews aged several years was killed near Van Horn when a traction engine ran over him as he fell. His father lay unconscious from a prior assault. John Donnelly faces a preliminary hearing. Mrs Andrews swooned upon hearing of the fatal accident. The family previously suffered another death when a younger son drank poison.

Marion Entwisle an 18 year old son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Entwisle died Sunday night at Presbyterian hospital from acute appendicitis. He began feeling ill Friday night at home in Litchfield and surgery was performed Saturday night but the disease was too advanced. He moved to Waterloo from Volney last March and worked as a plumber with Zook and Benz. He had many friends in Waterloo and is survived by his parents a sister Desca and brother Ezra and Floyd in Waterloo. The body was taken to O Keefe and Towne parlors and then by Chicago Great Western to Volney for burial tomorrow.
