Rev. W. M. Stuckey formerly of Williamsburg was found guilty in Ottawa after a trial on charges of abducting Lorena Sutherland a 16 year old parishioner. The case likely will be appealed.

In Tallahassee on January 4 a youth, watching the post office, shot and killed two safe blowers named Pant Sante, seven years old. One bystander was slightly injured. The two criminals, described as white, remain unidentified.
Francesco Satolli arch-priest of the Lateran and first apostolic delegate to the United States died in Rome after a June onset of nephritis and lung atrophy, with blood poisoning. Born 1839 at Marsolalo he became cardinal in 1895. He left most estate to the church and requested its division among ecclesiastical and benevolent bodies. Pope Leo XIII mourned. He had long ties to the United States, including visits and the 1892 Washington delegation role.
Report says western packers led by Armour and Swift have gained influence in about six major independent New York meat wholesalers. The move follows a milk price increase from eight to nine cents a quart at the consolidated milk exchange meeting on November 1.

Nicholas Weber aged 30 years 4 months 18 days died January 5 at the home of his parents in Independence after an illness of inflammatory rheumatism He was blind from birth yet cheerful and active a skilled musician playing violin flute piano and organ He attended the School for the Blind in Vinton for twelve years and was beloved by family and friends with a hopeful spirit and gentle nature Funeral was held at St Joseph's Catholic Church with interment in St John's cemetery

Norfolk Neb Jan 8 F 8 Quibb the treasurer of Cherry county has refused to turn over the office to Miss Gertrude Jordan elected treasurer last fall on the ground that women are not eligible to hold county office. The case was carried to the supreme court. the first test of whether a woman can hold county office under the Nebraska constitution.
