Seized by customs inspectors five years earlier from Mrs Phyllis Dodge for undeclared valuables the Dodge jewels were auctioned. Average bids ran under 40 percent of appraised value. Carnegie Library Gifts Reach Across Nations

Horace White of New York stated that Andrew Carnegie has pledged to fund 1,299 library buildings totaling 29,920,240 dollars. Death of Aged Black Hawk County Farmer in Tennessee

John Tennison, about eighty, a longtime resident of Washington township near Waterloo, died Wednesday night under mysterious circumstances while traveling from Janesville toward Florida for the winter. His body was found on the Louisville & Nashville track south of Nashville, suggesting a fall from a moving train. Evidence includes broken limbs and $18 in his pocket, with no sign of robbery. He left Janesville Sunday and the body arrived back in Janesville for burial. He left a brother and wife, both in Clarksville, surviving him.

Harbin Named Inspector General By Grand Army Leader

George W Harbin received an unsolicited commission from General Blackmar head of the Grand Army of the Republic appointing him assistant inspector general. Harbin served in the Civil War and has been active in G A R affairs in Waterloo where he held post commander. He will travel the middle west attending G A R meetings in the inspector role.
