F. C. Fry, F. Fry, and Wm Hauhauh were arraigned in police court for disturbing public quiet at a Colorado Street home last night. All pleaded guilty and were fined 25 each. With 14 paid, they could go. otherwise jail. Fry’s arm was injured in the fracas.
Des Moines Iowa February 22 Union miners across the state vote for district officers. John P White of Oskaloosa opposes Jacob Ritter of Centerville for president in a quiet secret balloting process.
Webb City Missouri faced a legal challenge to its local option outcome after a wets group filed a petition in circuit court. They claimed 300 illegal votes were cast for the dry side, challenging the dry victory by 67 votes. A separate note mentions a Tripoli family welcoming a son, with Mrs. Ambrose identified as Hazel Stowell formerly of Waterloo.
Marathon Iowa, Feb 22. Mrs Hazel Roberts 23, wife of Guy Roberts, a farmer, was murdered with an ax in her home. Henry Johnson, 22 or 23, the hired man, is held in jail charged with the crime. The husband found her body. Johnson allegedly had prior insanity bouts and may have attacked from behind during household duties.
Waterloo remembers Rev J Richard Reitzel 61 of Blue Island died in Sioux City after pork caused ptomaine poisoning. He toured Kansas and Illinois lecturing, visiting Waterloo at the W W Forry home since 1892, with lectures like Eight Hundred Miles up the Nile and Constantinople, burial pending Mrs Reitzel's wishes.
A compilation of land transfers shows Jas B Edwards to Sean Edwards in multiple sections and blocks in Raymond, United States transfers to Silas J Petit, James Poyner parcels, George H Frush Jr to J Newton Smith in Waterloo areas, and multiple transfers in Grandview Place and Pacific additions. Cedar Falls Iowa Feb 22 fire swept the residence of Uncle Johnny Harman aged 83 a Waterloo resident at Cedar Falls. Strong winds aided the blaze and most of the household goods were not saved leaving only a few salvageable items.
Washington February 82 The house naval committee voted tentative approval of Secretary Meyer's plan to reorganize the navy granting him power to implement for one year. They also voted to consider and complete a statutory plan of naval administration next fall.
Enthusiastic backing from Waterloo attendees endorses Prof. P. G. Holden for president of the Town State college. Speakers praise Holden's qualifications and labor in Iowa agriculture as a unanimous show of support fills the room.
Albert Tanner of Milwaukee, brother of former Postmaster Frank Tanner of Towa City, will arrive to plan financing for the Iowa City Ottumwa interurban railway. He will then go to Philadelphia to arrange with an underwriter to raise one to two million dollars in Europe for the project.
It is practically settled that Iowa's four national guard regiments will go this year as a brigade to Sparta Wisconsin for maneuvers with regiments from Wisconsin and Minnesota. One regiment was set to go to Fort Riley with other units for estate carnivals.
Des Moines reports Nellie Taylor of Ottumwa facing trial for the murder of her infant with the case hinging on her mental state. Prosecutors rest with evidence largely established. Taylor may testify to recount events leading to the act and alleged insanity.
Kansas City, Feb 21 Clay Clement actor and playwright died this morning of araemic poliohing. Born 1863 in Woodford county Illinois he studied at the University of Chicago and acted in Chicago since 1884. He was noted as both actor and playwright. Milwaukee blaze damages city buildings at West Water street causing about 100000 in losses.
Des Moines reports a 14 year old Elsie Warren missing after marrying Joe Rand a 19 year old Italian at Marshalltown. Neighbors and parents clash over the union. Elsie kept house for seven days before vanishing, prompting Joe to seek police aid to locate her.
Dubuque Mayor Schunk reports that the city will not pay a $2600 assessment levied by the Upper Mississippi River Improvement Association for 1910 and previous years. The levy funded river convention expenses and federal lobbying. Independence County Auditor E Hayes resigns to become cashier of Lamont savings bank after eight years in Buchanan county office. Harvey A T Baker dies from a stomach blow while wood sawing near Chambers east of Knoxville.
Des Moines February 22. George Arlington a white man cut the throat of his sister in law Mrs Sarah Arlington and then cut his own throat. Both are in a hospital and may recover.
Coroner Wil son announced that Dr Schweitzer’s report showed strychnine in the stomach and liver of Prof Vaughn who died recently under peculiar circumstances. The notice appears in Paris Missouri dated February twenty second.
