Waterloo & Cedar Falls Gas & Electric Co Sold

The Waterloo and Cedar Falls Gas and Electric Co was sold to Chicago investors led by R. C. Dawes and H. B. Hurd with Z. G. Elston Jr of East St. as buyer. The price is about $520,000 and Elston becomes president while J. G. Elston Jr. is named president and general manager. Dawes becomes vice president and Hurd secretary. The deal funds expansion of gas and electric plants in Waterloo and Cedar Falls.

Word from Colorado Springs reports the death of A R Park a former Alden resident and city official after a period of illness. The body will be brought to Alden for interment as the community mourns the loss of a longtime local figure.

Frank Asmussen of this city died yesterday after a cancer illness of a couple of months. He was sixty eight, had lived near the city for twenty five years, coming from Scoi county. His wife survives him. The funeral will be held today with interment at Union cemetery.

Mrs Rogers Sentenced As Windsor Woman Hanged

An Associated Press report from Windsor Vermont states Mrs Rogers, alias Mrs Bowers, was hanged at 11 35 a.m. after spending final night in death cell. She showed no clear confession or denial of crime, passed the hours with sewing, reading the Bible and letter writing while awaiting execution. A mercy appeal from White River Junction is noted.

Pioneer settler Mary Engledow laid to rest in Benton county

La Porte Iowa December 9 special report Mary Engledow a Benton county pioneer who lived four miles south of town for half a century was buried today at Engladow cemetery. She was nearly eighty at death after a Thursday demise her husband predeceased her and only grandchildren survive. The family settled in the fifties becoming among Benton county’s oldest residents. The family was prosperous and industrious owning a fine farm. Funeral services for Mrs Josie Hilp will be held from United Evangelical church next Monday at ten o clock.

McWilliams Must Hang for Horrific Iowa Murder

Glenny May Be Candidate for County Superintendent

G A Glenny of Hudson is expected to seek the Republican nomination for county superintendent at the next convention. Glenny, current superintendent of Bubard public schools, formerly led Hudson and Emmettsburg schools and holds a degree from the Iowa State Normal School with strong mathematics training. Mrs Frank Hacker Dies in Friend Nebraska

Mrs. Frank Hacker daughter of Mrs Lena Goswiller died at 3 this morning in Friend Nebraska of consumption. She was about forty one, leaving her husband Prank Hacker and three children, plus her mother and several siblings.
