Mr Ivan James of Galloway station and Miss Edna C Strong, a former stenographer, were secretly married at 8 20 last night at Rev J B Johnsons home in St Pauls M B church Cedar Rapids. The bride, a Waterloo Business College graduate, will continue her job while Mr James has been in Waterloo about a year. Friends extend best wishes to the couple.
Pittsburg April 15 President Taft an admitted fan wants best view of Flying Dutchman Wagner in the Chicago versus Pittsburg game on May 2 He will sit in a box directly over the Pittsburg bench to see the action clearly.
In Negaunee Michigan on April 15 Frank Haarman a 51 year old miner laid dynamite under beds of his wife and three year old daughter and another under his own bed where he and his five year old boy slept. The blast killed the three and the wife while the little girl survived miraculously unhurt.
New York April 15 Robert Underwood Johnson editor of the Century appeals to the Minnesota board of pardons for a poet serving ten years in Stillwater for burglary. The poet known as John Carter is 14 and the genuine name is known to a few editors of magazines who bought his poems. Johnson printed the poem Don Sordini in the April Century with a note on the case and has since received letters praising the poet's art and urging clemency.
Washington April 35 The postal savings bank bill suffers after an encounter with the house postal subcommittee which completed its work on the measure It will be reported to the full post office committee today and adoption seems assured The bill limits deposits to banks designated by a board of trustees and omits automatic designation for all post offices issuing money orders
Aged engineer Benjamin Bratton, retired civil engineer, was injured by a motorcycle this morning. He was the bearer of the construction bridge over the Miss, which was built at Davenport.
Washington April Census Director Durand explains to enumerators that housewives should be recorded as having no occupation. He notes the census aims to count only jobs that bring money, and thus housewives’ vital contributions are not reflected as an occupation.
Cedar Rapids voters approved building a new concrete bridge at Third Avenue. The project aims for a top quality structure with an estimated cost around 130000 dollars, officials said.

Mrs. G M Barden of 1001 Western avenue Waterloo died at Presbyterian hospital after two months illness and several operations. She was 31, survived by husband at Maytag and two young sons. Funeral set for Saturday at Delwe in, family mourns in sorrow. Infant Salome Elizabeth Medd, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Medd, died at home 317 Tenth street east after a week of illness from measles and pneumonia. She was born April 15, 1910, aged 9 months 27 days.
Samuel L. Clemens known as Mark Twain arrived at his country home in Redding Connecticut after a long Bermuda voyage. He was very ill but spent a restful night and seemed much brighter in the morning. Dr. R H Halsey of New York stayed with him, noting the bracing country air aided his breathing and easing distress from the voyage.

Returning from a funeral in Iowa City on April 15, W. H. Hohenschuh past president of the Iowa State Funeral Directors Association and his driver Lewis Miller were flung from a country bridge into a creek ten feet below as their hearse avoided a drove of hogs. They escaped with minor injuries.
Mrs J J Howell of Oskaloosa Iowa fell from a second story window last night. She was taken to the hospital where doctors say she cannot recover. A night patrolman discovered her after the accident, while her family was unaware.
Henry Smythe a 30 year old unmarried switchman on the M and St L was caught between cars at midnight and fatally injured en route to hospital. He died from his injuries.
Philadelphia April 15 The street car strike likely to end tomorrow with terms that include company offers as best yet. Strikers will be rehired or paid two dollars a day until placed, wages rising to 25 cents an hour by July 1 and annually by half a cent, and union rights preserved. Discharge cases to be decided by arbitration.
Joan Z. Evans, millionaire mine owner of Monroe county, is sued by his wife Emma Evans for separate maintenance. She alleges drunkenness and cruel and inhuman treatment and seeks an allowance of 30000 dollars yearly. The case is set for district court in Albia, Iowa, beginning April 18.

Dr. James K. Rowley of Chicago, giant grand master of the Illinois Grand Lodge of the Odd Fellows, is dead. He led the order in Illinois and was a prominent fraternal figure.
Washington April 15 Representative Willey of New Jersey declined to introduce a petition from New Jersey suffragists seeking congressional action. The National American Woman Suffrage Association opened with reports from several states and adopted a unanimous resolution thanking President Taft for his welcome. Taft was hissed by some suffragists during his speech, but urged self restraint as an test of self government. Officers lament the incident, noting many outsiders in attendance.
