Savings Found On Cherry Bodies After Mine Disaster
Thirty one miners' bodies were recovered from the St Paul coal mine where they had lain since the November 13 1909 disaster. Cash found on some bodies totaled 1460 190 and 172 dollars. The men had taken shelter in a 20 by 20 foot space and built a board fan to circulate air. A chalked message on the fan read All alive 2 p m Nov 14 indicating feeble hope. Officials say all entombed miners have been accounted for though some bodies remain to be brought up.

The relatives of L B Babcock of Waverly identified the man killed in Chicago Monday night. Orlando Babcock left for Chicago to confirm burial arrangements. The 42 year old was a farmer’s son born in Bremer county and leaves a wife eight children and extended kin. He was struck by an auto truck on the Chicago rail line and died instantly.
