Republican committee of the judicial district calls a convention at 1 p m in Waterloo to nominate two district judge candidates to succeed F V Platt of this city and A S Bhir of Manchester. The district includes Black Hawk Grundy Buchanan and Delaware counties with county conventions to follow for delegates and officers.

Abner miles Selilaherg and family traveled to Waverly for the funeral of Thomas Selilaher, who died last Saturday in Sherwood, Montana, from an alleged accidental dose believed to be misadministered. Waverly Woman Jane Fortner Dies in California

Mrs. Jane Fortner longtime innkeeper of Fortner house in Waverly died suddenly in California last Sunday from suspected heart trouble. She came to Waverly in 1865 and lived here until selling her hotel, with burial to be beside her husband Amos Fortner. Surviving sons include Attorney Fortner of Waverly and Dr. Fortner of Chicago. A son Noy had preceded her.

Iowa April 1. A. Dawson of Waverly applied to J. Gilhompson of the district court for a writ of habeas corpus for Louis Busse condemned to be hanged at Amamosa April 26. The hearing will be Saturday with appeal to the supreme court. Dawson alleges the verdict was technically illegal and that the supreme court was divided on evidence. Busse, a wealthy Bremeroun ty farmer, killed his wife in a fit of rage and attempted to conceal the crime with kerosene.
