Russians Land in Sitka After Foggy Alaska Flight
The Russian monoplane Land of the Soviets, part of a 12 000 mile Moscow to New York run, landed in Sitka Alaska after a 7 hour 34 minute 600 mile leg from Seward. A large crowd greeted Chief Pilot Shestakov and crew, as coast guard safety concerns arose from misinterpreted radio messages. The team planned refueling in Sitka and aimed to depart for Seattle tomorrow before continuing to San Francisco and New York via Chicago.
