Calmar Indiana September 28 Several members of the Calmar high school football squad were expelled for breaking training rules and football has been dropped for this season. School officials announced that since the squad was small it was best not to continue the sport and all games have been canceled.
Iowa City September 28 The University of Iowa football eleven opens its 1929 campaign here today against Carroll College of Waukesha Wisconsin with ten veterans returning from last year. Oliver Nansen a 160 pound recruit from Milwaukee is slated to fill Mayes McLain shoes as the sole new addition in the lineup. Carroll held a weight advantage but Iowa was the favorite in the Big Ten opener.
In Byrnes Park municipal course action, German leads to the semifinals in the Minotsentral golf event. Lawrence Gunstead is set to meet the Porterfield winner as the top bracket narrows. Alex Gorman faces the John ONeal J Bullet winner in the lower bracket with the victor meeting the Gunstead–Carson survivor.
