Social calendar notes a Thursday bridge for women at Bunnyside Country Club and a Friday evening bridge for all, with Halloween dance season finale. Dine-in service closed but clubhouse remains open for cards and dancing. numerous church and lodge groups listed for Wednesday sessions and midweek events across local venues.
Patriotic orders plan a Memorial hall event tomorrow evening to honor 30 new citizens. The Woman's Belief Corps led by Mrs. M A Taylor and Mrs. Henry Glas coordinates the program with talks by Miss Ruth Updegraf on education and Dr J E Ridenour on health. Tokens will be presented. The Relief corps meets Friday afternoon in Memorial hall for secretary’s report, prior to Saturday district convention at Cedar Falls conducted by Mrs Bere Patrick of Boone Iowa.
Mrs Geo Loveall of Dethart Texas was guest of honor at a bridge party hosted by her sister Miss Lucille Stull. The guest list included Misses Marie Gleason Helyn Miller Madelyn Manning Jean Payne Agnes Thomas Alma Siphert and Messrs Harold Patterson Sherman McNally Harold Goetsch Merton Friedley. Mrs A E Stull assisted with serving. Rose and lavender were the color theme. Friedler will entertain Mrs Loveall Thursday evening.
Nineteen members gathered at Mrs. C W Eby home for the first study meeting of the year. Louise Hagerman read a paper on Primitive Music, with Lillian Lohner. A trio sang Far off I Hear a Lover's Mute, and Ethel Brinkyman played Etude No 5. Fae Collins performed Capriccio and Mrs Wagner assisted with serving.
The Rides-Wee club met at Miss Ruth Miller’s home with autumn decorations and prizes for Miss Lucille Gnie Ee. Mrs Joe Schiel hosted Entre Nous for a 1 o'clock luncheon at Black’s tearoom and Mrs Belle Morse hosted L A club yesterday with guest Miss Lorraine Duncan of Des Moines. After lunch Morse escorted members to the Dalry Cattle Congress.
Chapter F met at Mrs Nath an Barber home with 40 in attendance to hear Mrs Maude Palmer review W E Woodward’s biography of George Washington and discuss its view of the Father of His Country and era. Chapter FE with 35 members heard Mrs Shores on antiques and enjoyed a melodeon accompanyment by Mrs Young as two fundraising teams planned for an educational fund. A party in honor of Mrs Kirk Gross will be hosted by Mrs Boies with Mrs Albert Brown assisting.
Lydia society of First Presbyterian to meet at 7 20 p m today at Mrs L E Larsen home with assistants Opal Haven Mildred Downey and Florence Warnock. Deborah society of First Methodist Episcopal will skip this week due to Dairy Cattle Congress work. Searchlight class of Walnut Street Baptist to hold social in church Sunshine room Wednesday evening. Missionary Society of Burton Avenue Baptist meets 2 30 p m tomorrow with Mrs Marion Flint 93¢ Riehl street. Ladies Social Union and Clara Barton Guild Universalist plan parish house picnic supper at 6 p m tomorrow with offering.

Mr and Mrs Besh hosted a Sunday dinner at 122 Kingsley Avenue for the cattle judging team from Iowa State College ArmES here for the Cattle Congress. Ted Besh a West High School graduate and team member tied for second in the collegiate judging contest won by the team yesterday. Two team members stayed as guests in the Besh home.
Westminster church opens its evening services with a sacred concert by the choir. Guest tenor Harold F. Miller, from Storm Lake now moving to Waterloo, will direct and sing. The Sunday school orchestra led by Miss Hortense Morgan will perform a prelude and assist congregational singing as well as accompany the chorus on Babylon’s Wave by Gounod.
Des Moines September 27 H W Cook aged 45 was held on charges of attempting to snatch a purse from Miss C McGrew. He was captured after a sensational chase. An earlier attempt failed when a Black man escaped after seizing Miss Lela Haycock. Both women screamed and frightened the assailants away.
The East High school year began with several clubs naming officers for the semester. Delphian Society shows Dick Shane as president with Ariene Peters as VP and others listed. multiple clubs follow with their respective leaders and roles. A note mentions a state audit and a train derailment near Waterloo with minor damage and quick clearance.
Lea Gleason leaves for senior year in architectural engineering at Iowa State College Ames. Marian Iseminger returns to study home economics at Ames. A J Lytle of Pittsburgh visits Iowa relatives. Clinton B Sass meets with Kansas City, Mexico & Orient railway officials in town. Earl Record to attend Y M C A state conference in Iowa City. Women’s prayer meeting set for 2 45 PM at Mrs Sheridan’s home. Roy and Mrs Hulett return from Colorado Springs. A T Parrott Civil War veteran visits his daughter in town. West High string trio performs at weekly M G A dinner. Louis Moehl seeks 558 60 damages from July auto crash.
Washington dispatch reports that 77 cities recorded 6,961 auto fatalities in the year ending Sept 10, up from 6,462 last year. The rate reached 21.6 per 100 000 population, a 6 percent rise from 20.4. Camden New Jersey led with 42.2 per 100 000. Within four weeks ended Sept 10 Chicago 55 Indianapolis 4 Milwaukee 12 Minneapolis 6 New York 48.
