Petition seeks ban on Sunday shows in Waterloo

Waterloo ministers presented a petition signed by over 6 000 voters and 24 high school students urging the city to close Sunday motion picture theatres and curb “corrupting” movies. They offered two ordinances: ban Sunday shows or submit the issue to a March city election, with council deferring action after receipt.

Waterloo ministerial group fights Sunday shows

The Waterloo Ministerial Association collected signatures on a resolution dated February 1 1921 pledging united effort to oppose open moving picture houses and other amusements seen as threats to moral standards. The document, signed by many local clergy and leaders, frames the campaign as a community fight to defend religious and family values. In Greene Iowa a separate note reports a plane piloted by Claire Cheney crashing in Moon's pasture after hitting an air pocket, resulting in a damaged aircraft but no immediate injuries.
