Federal Judge blocks beer shipments to Iowa dry areas

Judge Carpenter of the United States district court granted a temporary injunction stopping Jacob M. Dickinson and Henry A. Mudge, receivers of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroad, from refusing to transport beer and fermented liquors to private consumers in Iowa dry territory. Four brewing companies petitioned, claiming losses from refusals. The order requires shipments to be labeled intended for personal use and private consumption. Iowa liquor law requires private purchasers to register and sign for deliveries. Receivers may deliver to a designated drayman for pickup on behalf of purchasers, with Iowa allowed to intervene when needed.
