Navy completes major Cuban waters survey in 10 years
The U S Navy wraps up a decade long hydrographic effort mapping Cuban coastal waters from Cienfuegos to Cape San Antonio. The survey covered 760 square miles with 180 miles of coastline plotted and 1500 miles of soundings. A shallow channel near Hatabanoco opened to larger ships, and sailors noted a white sandy bottom called the White Sea.
