Cedar Rapids IA Sept 21 Albert Griswold a member of the G A R for disabled veterans will not be allowed to spend his last hours at the old home place nor likely to be buried there. The 90 year old veteran arrived from Danville toward Solon but authorities refused to transport him. Local G A R members raised funds to send him back but his weak health endangers the journey. Griswold served in an Illinois regiment during the war.
Washington reports reveal Count von Bernstorff asked Berlin for authority to pay up to $50,000 to influence Congress via an unnamed organization.
