Origin of Seneca Ride Traced to Bare Hill New York
Middlesex Sept 20. Bare Hill rising above Canandaigua lake forms a prominent landmark to Seneca people who consider it the origin of the tribe. Pre-Iroquoian relics on its slope mark it as an ancient burial ground and the hill may become a state park site. The Senecas lore recounts a two headed serpent Kaistowanea tamed by a sister’s hair arrow, its heart pierced, ending the threat.
