Waterloo Soldiers Made Fine Showing
Waterloo's military companies rank high among Iowa troops in a report from E. R. Tompkins. Company B led in the first battalion, Company G topped the second, and Company M Fairfield led the third. In a drill among the three, Company M was first, Company G second, Company B third. Regular officers praised Town troops as nearly as efficient as the regular army. Tompkins notes Waterloo soldiers enjoy army life despite hard labor tasks. A separate raid on a billiard parlor led to arrests of proprietor Gus Hadjiyianekas and two intoxicated men. Hadjiyianekas bonded, hearing set Friday. An earlier district-court liquor fine was noted for Hadjiyianekas, based on tips from Arthur Kelly, who aided police after parole violations.
