Des Moines Sept 17 The State Horticultural Society and allied groups will skip the Midwest horticultural show this fall as they plan to hold such events biennially. Big displays will appear at state fairs and fruit grower meetings. The Southeastern Iowa Horticultural Society meets in Corydon Tuesday through Thursday with a field day auto tour on Sept 19. W T Fichoey is secretary of the association. The Iowa State Horticultural Society will hold its fifty eighth annual convention at the Savery Hotel Des Moines Dec 3 and 6.
Dr. A C Preston will conclude nearly nine years as pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church this Sunday. A farewell reception for him and Mrs. Preston is set for 8:30 p.m. Thursday in church parlors with a 14 member school orchestra and solo performances. The autumnal communion will be observed next Sunday morning, followed by a farewell evening sermon titled The Mind of Christ. The Prestons plan to move to Sioux Falls then Lawton Iowa before Sept 30 and undertake new engagements with a quartet traveling to Chicago and Hagerstown.
The DuMond male quartet will give a sacred public concert at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church next Sunday evening after rehearsing for fall and winter lyceum engagements.
