Youth and Age to Fight for France War Plan
Paris parliamentary debate centers on a 400000-strong youth contingent to begin service in 1917 for 18 and 19 year olds. The bill, from President Poincare, also retains the 1888 class for exemptions. Hawthorne School Destroyed In Waterloo Fire

Residents mourn the loss while many business and social leaders recall their education there, as other historic Waterloo schools and district changes trace their origins back to the 19th century.

Early Kansas City Graduates Help Plan Hewthorne Building
George Vinieg of Kansas City led the first graduates in elaborate plans for the Hewthorne building. An architect from Chicago prepared the plate for a modern structure with no new features. An indoor playground was added but planks had to be changed after the first story. Support piers were eight inches wide and spaced eight to ten feet apart, causing plaza cracks that required brick walls. Damaged portions of the school will be removed and a modern reproof structure may occupy the site. John P. Von Lackuns provided key photography for the Courier and Reporter coverage of the burning at the Wauthorne bullring.
