Downward Trend in Some Items in Produce Markets
A downward trend marked what few changes were recorded in local market prices over those of last week. Staple articles remain practically the same. Eyes and butter are 3S cents a dozen and from 48 to 50 cents a pound respectively. Potatoes are around 35 cents a pack. Sugar came down 15 cents on the hundred pound sack and flour 20 cents on a similar quantity. Indiana watermelons made their appearance on the local market this week. They are meeting with a ready sale at 40 cents for your choice. They come from one of the most famous melon patches in the world. It is eight miles long and two miles wide. Trainloads are shipped daily during a successful season. Canned goods remain high and there is no immediate prospect of a drop in prices. The government, it is said, has contracted for 12 per cet of all vegetables that are packed and this accounts for a larger demand than usual.
